The best coming of age movies were written by adults so I think it's fair to count them but it is more considerably impressive when someone like Nas or Lorde writes their best work at 14-17 perfectly capturing their experiences and emotions.
nah not even about the author being an adult
fetch the album cutters feels like it’s a coming into a new version of yourself well into adulthood.
it’s about divorce and regret and a lot of other s*** that you don’t really come to understand int ur middle age years.

what does coming of age album actually mean
An artist reminiscing about their teenage experiences and becoming an adult
what does coming of age album actually mean
i usually see it meaning teenagers/high school age at the point of transition to adulthood (not literally but in reference to the material on the album)
i wouldn't consider "dealing with your early 20s" a coming of age album but can see why others would
is there such thing as a coming of age album for adults? this is prolly it. what it has to say about consent and standing up for urself is very inspiring
Tbh I think all of hers are different coming of age albums.
Tidal and Pawn are teen years
EM is the aimlessness of your 20s
Wheel is becoming a real adult in your 30s
Illmatic is slightly better
Eh it might be the better album but the coming of age themes are better on PH
do y'all like the love club EP
i feel like we should talk about that too
it's really good

There was a girl in my HS who played "Biting Down" on her phone speaker EVERY DAY during our art class.
Everyone else hated her, I never grew to hate the song. Great EP.

But why? Nas handles the idea of transitioning from a teen to an adult beautifully all over this album that genuinely is a great pick for best coming of age
This is an actual classic record too, s*** changed the music game for the rest of the decade, and it’s influence can still be felt
But why? Nas handles the idea of transitioning from a teen to an adult beautifully all over this album that genuinely is a great pick for best coming of age
illmatic doesn't sound like a coming of age album to me
nas always sounded like a wise old monk to me

He’s not white and making pop music, he can’t come of age
illmatic doesn't sound like a coming of age album to me

He’s wise but it’s literally a coming of age album the album is about becoming an adult in his environment from nearly start to finish coming of age is content based not sound based
