And this aint one of those “aww she got low ticket sales” situations as they were selling well (Paris was already sold out)
it would be easier to say “due to unforeseen circumstances,” but a dear friend encouraged me to be more transparent. many people don’t realize that musicians often tour at a loss
She proceeds to explain how it’s a huge investment to tour with a band + crew of our size, and i’ve been fortunate to make that investment many times. but the landscape has changed drastically since 2020. between renting gear, transportation and accommodation costs, even if we sold out every show the financial burden wouldn’t be practical to take on.
artists been talking about this for a while. Merch and touring were the last things artists had that really made them any money. If niggas can’t really tour then wtf do we have left?
i’m eagerly envisioning a future where musicians can unionize, where streaming services pay artists fairly, and where the industry becomes more equitable for artists at all stages of their careers. in the meantime, i’m gonna take a beat to reimagine what a more sustainable way of touring overseas could look like, and also dream on some alternative ways to connect on here and irl.
I fux with the optimism but I wonder when ppl gonna realize the only remedy to fix this is a hard reset
@SOLARIS sorta continuation of your thread

Scorched earth my boi
Backing tracks all in mp3s bring one homie to turn them on and off on a laptop connected by aux cord as a faux dj and do your thing
She can literally do a PA
This applies to all artists that have backup musicians
Unless you’re Beyonce or thundercat you can literally just do a PA and people will be happy
Business model as it stands aint sustainable
not gonna lie we should make this go viral, it would save alot of people alot of wasted time tbh lol
It does seem like the best time to be a musician was probably in the late 00s/early 10s where you could still push CDs/digital albums, and YT/DSPs were novelty
Not to mention COVID didn’t adjust the economy, value of a dollar, in person experiences, etc
Dudes breaking their asses to make $1 on a exhausting tour that zaps them of all their happiness, health, and sanity while streamers sitting in front of their computers playing WoW and Roblox making millions a year
Yeah the ‘artists make money from touring’ s*** is cap for smaller artists. Your 20 dollar tickets not covering all that entourage and travel costs

so there's literally 0 money coming in for artists AT ALL unless it's from merch or label advances
GG MUSIC INDUSTRY

Think most artists get a monthly salary to survive but I could be wrong
Not to derail the thread but this act, Cindy Lee, made a separate site to allow fans to link their new album (only found on YT, won’t be on DSPs), host a free link to the album on Mega, and ask for donations
I feel like all lowkey artists are secretly wanting a return to purchasing albums as the option A
I just downloaded WoW again boys, f*** music! Streaming era!
Played it for the first time in 14 years in the fall for a bit and it was really nice going back to that little world for a month lol

It would make more sense as all streaming did was give artists even less power

You’re wrong lol
You’re wrong lol
I see why rappers go back to selling d****
It is almost like being an artist and earning money through art is a more of a lottery then a real job.
