watching reviews like this make me wonder if im a pathetic hater

dude says its the best alien movie hes ever seen, best movie on grief hes ever seen, best brother sister dynamic hes seen in years. perfect score. will make you cry at the end. bone chilling scary etc

and im like wtf have you seen, it wasnt scary, i felt almost nothing close to tears and i cry at movies all the time and i walked away let down in many key areas of the film

great score, solid acting, amazingly shot, funny pieces in the script. ok movie 6/10

You're watching a youtube movie review, what do you expect?

    Class divide

I realised recently 2019 gave us 3 moves in Us, Joker and Parasite that all dealt with similar class divide themes

So f***in real for Men being in top 10
    It’s numb 6 for me
Also I was surprised how much I enjoyed Marcel, it was the right type of movie I needed at that moment. Super comfortable. But I can easily see it being boring to most audiences

Peele starting to get that Nolan-esqe type catalogue where some people call a film a masterpiece while others call it trash

    I give it a 3/5

I feel like Jordan Peele gets too bogged down in subtext instead of focusing on the characters, story arcs etc.

I felt Daniel Kuluya was directed wrongly..his lack of emotion throughout the whole film frustrated me to no end. Its a shame because he's an incredible actor.

Keke Palmer's arc didn't pack a punch. All the ingredients are there for a satisfying arc but they are never properly fleshed out.

I gave it the same rating and think its just alright.

But i thought it was pretty clear that Kuluya's character was meant to be a very reserved and somewhat aimless guy. The film reiterates his personality a lot in several different scenarios, plays it as a contrast to his father's and sister's personalities, and ties it into the spectacle concept throughout the narrative.

If thats how the character was written then Kuluya wasn't directed wrong, and stoicism can be just as valuable as emotion or melodrama in a performance when context calls for it.

There's tons of character focus in the movie in general, far more so than Peele's last two films even.

Just watched in IMAX, this s*** was incredible and might be my favourite Peele movie, but Sci Fi is my favourite genre.

Hoyte is tooooo good and Daniel really levelling up each time I see him.

Really enjoyed the pacing, had a really nice rhythm.

Also the use of ‘Nope’ >>>

Convinced more films need to take the book chapter-style approach, Northman and this executed it so well
