Heard the story only picks up in the 2nd half. Is that true

I think the first 30 minutes is spent more on getting a understanding of the characters and such and it can be “boring” if you’re expecting aliens left and right but it really goes all in right at the 30-40 minute mark. So pretty much once they figure out what’s going on.
Can’t remember a dull moment after, there was a constant feeling of dread and tension.

Disagree. I think people are conditioned by capeshit films that throw them straight into action. If a film takes time to set up characters and subplots then it’s “boring filler” and the action is where it “picks up”

The 3rd act is just a great payoff to an already entertaining 1st and 2nd act

Audiences have set up this culture with every peele film
If you go to YouTube comments, all they’re doing is discussing what social/political commentary that the film is trying to get across. They do this every time. Peele could make a b movie tier mindless schlock film and they’ll still be trying to figure out what it means

Peeles next film should be about people who over a***yze his films

saw this last night, when i saw that UFO turn into the damn alien I was f\*\*\*in glued to the screen. love his adaptation on what the alien looks like. looks almost like a wizard or “the watcher” from marvel (without the human head ofc)

It’s funny cause the more negative reviews I’ve seen of this is cause they went in expecting social commentary based on Peeles first two films and left disappointed cause it was just a pretty straightforward blockbuster. It does have a message yeah but I appreciated that it didn’t beat you over the head with it nearly as much as Us did. There’s a lot of ideas in this though that are worth exploring, just nowhere near as deep as people think

The guy doesn’t have to make some big Sociopolitical statement with every film he does. I think he’s aware of this and wants to get away from being put into that box.

i can see that for sure. i wish that his character stuck around longer so we could have more of a pay off. i loved the gordo scenes so much but i was disappointed that it wasn’t directly tied to the alien creature.

I’m ok with it not tying into the alien being it tied in with the theme and overall message and adds depth to Ricky’s character. But I do think them starting the movie with the monkey scene made it seem more important to the plot than it actually was. But I do wish Ricky stuck around longer, I feel there was a little more they coulda did with his character and the lady who survived the TV show attack too but I do respect the ambition of killing off a main character midway through
