Think about where an artists falls on the totem pole of the revenue earned by music, very low.

because Drake makes hits after hits and is profitable currently to the label.

Frank Ocean finessed (and afterwards made it harder for any other artist after to do it) himself out of the label to where he now owns his masters as an independent and is making much much more than he did while signed.

That's another thing, alot of these artists selling their catalogue aren't independent either. Russ and Logic will never ever do something like this for example.
