Wish there was more suspense in this. I was looking forward to the initial script and concept but this was still solid. Great performances, sharp direction & one of Scorsese’s best looking.

Just got out. Absolutely fantastic performances all around and direction. Plot was a little “loose” for me and hard to follow at times… could be how it’s edited but lots of just jumps from scene to scene.
It’s mainly the names lmfao barely caught anyone’s names besides the main people lol

But I overall enjoyed it ALOT. Did not feel the runtime at all.

However the Brendan Fraser cameo laughed so f***ing hard how he came onto screen I’m crying

Todd going “sorry for your loss”

Apparently Scorsese and Deniro got a little annoyed cus Leo kept trying to improv his lines lmao

Scorsese still got the sauce man

A1 direction and performances. Nobody can tell stories of greed quite like Marty.

Lily Gladstone had the best performance of the movie hands down

i felt dumb in this scene can someone explain

so i know that deniro took fire insurance on the place. he's literally letting their homeland burn for his own gain. molly and earnest had the fire piercing through their window like they were in hell almost. the destruction & evil of deniro's actions on display

but why were the people digging on/around the fire with pick axes? is that how they used to put out fires? or are these farm workers who continued to work despite the huge fire? i do really feel dumb asking because obviously it was a massively striking moment i just actually didn't get it

Breh so I live out in the country and there’s a train that will literally block the only road to get to civilization and long story short I’m 30 mins late to the movie and bailing

Luckily I found a 6 dollar matinee for a showing down the street

damn lowkey there were 30 min of trailers / ads before the movie started at my showing

That’s usually how it is where I’m at so I didn’t leave the crib until like 5 mins before the showing since it was gonna be a 20 minute drive until that damn train came

I kinda like how the plot was a bit loose, felt like it was less about the movie holding your hand and just having you in this world with the people.

By no reason other than your own implied dismissal should you leave this movie thinking these sort of atrocities are not still current. If you need a movie to be a history lesson that goes beyond its self imposed timeline to validate the message it’s conveying then maybe stick to documentaries.

I’m baffled by this perspective. If you think society at large is aware / cares enough about MMIW, you’re just flat out wrong. I can tell you as someone living in Canada, where MMIW is a massive problem (as it is in the US too), if you were to go ask most people on the street about it, they’d have no idea what you’re talking about.

Also, movies telling a historical story often have an informational pre-credit moment where it ties the message of the film to the modern day implications. To say someone should only wish for that if they’re watching a documentary is like, a deliberately obtuse take.

Last thing I’ll say — this is the type of movie that has a message and trying hard to inform the audience and make a point. I’m simply saying it would’ve been nice to see them acknowledge that police are still in 2023 ignoring the disproportionate amount of Indigenous Woman who are missing and murdered.

Yeah I feel like most people saying dumb things about it forget that Scorsese and his team has always used hot actors in their films even for small parts. Most people are saying something about it because it’s of the time. But had we been around for any of his films post the 90’s I’m sure the conversation is different.

Nowhere in the film does Scorsese imply this type of plight has been solved. In fact I think most people went into this movie with some sort of general knowledge of how the natives still are not treated equal— and left with a better understanding of a specific instance of a community being taken advantage of beyond belief— perhaps that could inspire an audience to seek better understanding of the state of natives today?

Martin created a very well executed adaptation of a story. The story you’re wishing to be told further is an extension of what was already shown in the film, it wouldn’t add anything besides clarification on how the story relates to today. The film doesn’t miss the mark lacking what you want, and I’m not saying it would’ve had it done so.

I also agree that MS gave a great adaptation of this specific story.

I’m also, on a section of this forum dedicated to discussing movies, discussing things that would’ve elevated the movie in my opinion. Are you done having a tantrum?
