I didn't read about the story I just knew Scorcese made a movie about something real that happened
I’m saying, if you watch a movie based on a true story and knows how it ends, that doesn’t count as you predicting right?
Really don't f with Scorsese and his portrayal of black people in his movies.
Black people don't exist in his movies but the n word magically does
Dumbest character in the movie and he names him Blacky. You're not slick you old racist c***

In this case Blackie Thompson is a real person but I didn’t realize till you mentioned the lack of black characters in his movies

On the basis of the last point, Blackie was a real guy who existed. In history and then in the book that the film is adapting

Goodfellas has Samuel L. Jackson, but his character is pretty problematic (spoilers in case anyone hasn't seen Goodfellas) Pesci says you can't trust black stick-up men since they 'fall asleep in the getaway car', and when it comes to the day of the climactic job, Jackson, the driver they hire actually is late, he slept in, which messes up things for the main characters

Okay I get what you're saying, but I actually thought that scene worked for continuity purposes. Got me thinking tho
Tbf a lot of Scorcese movies are based on books or real events but I guess he could’ve race swapped some of the characters of fictional books like Shutter Island. People only get mad about race swaps when it’s reboots or known IPs

Yeah, like I still think Goodfellas is a masterpiece, but that's always sat uneasy with me
He essentially got away with it only serving 10+ years but he had could’ve had generational wealth
not really oil prices didn't recover to 20s levels till 1957 cause the depression then ww2 and by then they were pumping far less oil
Osage wealth peaked in the early 20s, they still get money but those families were 8 figures rich
whole thing was needlessly pointless

He was actually asked to race-swap Mean Streets, most of the interiors were shot in LA but he was offered money to shoot more of it in NYC on the condition he made all the characters black, to take advantage of the Blaxploitation boom at the time, he turned it down because he wanted to show what growing up in his neighbourhood as an Italian-American as actually like, he thought it'd be unrealistic for him to graft his cultural experiences onto characters who weren't from his background, which was an obviously good decision imo

what about a Bronx Tale? Sort of centered on race relations and how black people were mistreated
My showing’s trailers were:
I’m used to random ads atp but after the movie trailers?
what about a Bronx Tale? Sort of centered on race relations and how black people were mistreated
That's a DeNiro joint not Scorsese

He didn't direct that one, that was actually Robert De Niro in his directorial debut
Fun fact: The kid from A Bronx Tale plays Fat Tony in The Irishman
Edit: Checking this last fact as I may have totally hallucinated it lmao
Nvm, it was the guy who played Nicky Zero, thought it was the lead for some reason
That's a DeNiro joint not Scorsese
and @Fries my bad, thanks for correcting me

Yeah he tells a lot of Italian American stories which is personal to him. Can’t hate
Should’ve had Ghostface instead of Bronson in Irishman
I don't remember seeing Bronson in the movie but Imma take your word for it 'cause that s*** is 15 hours long

He was selling caskets in the beginning. Barely in it

Hmm good break down g

Bronson was so weird in The Irishman I can't lie, I think that movie's a masterpiece but him being like 'So if you're going in the baaahks', 'Who's it for?' and then getting somber when he realises it's for De Niro is insane
Like laying it out there, he essentially asked 'What death box do you wanna be thrown in a dirt hole?' thinking it could have been for the guy's dead wife or something

No it doesn’t it wont count that way
I usually do it for films with made up stories
Or even when its real like this only if I haven’t read the real story before watching it
