Is Cisco necessary? I heard it's not even used...
Knowing Cisco is a requirement for cybersec? Cuz that s*** kinda sucks. I guess it's not as bad as Linux...
I want to get the Sec+ soon...
it's less knowing how to operate cisco devices and more knowing about the osi layers and how data flows from one device to another over a network. also you should become knowledgeable on linux because it is important that you know how to maneuver the command line.

Well, 26 is still really young from career standpoint. The most succesfull people i know were working s***ty 9-5 jobs in their 20's and even in the beginning of their 30's. I started to learn to code recently because i got an online store and i'm intrested in this stuff, and want to elevate myself to the next level. Sometimes i still feel like im heading to nowhere tho, but i think that's how 80% of people feels. Life is complicated but never give up.
dont treat the time closing in to 30 like a ticking time bomb as if you've only got a couple years left to enjoy yourself. play your own game

Oh nah I got my bachelors in nursing after HS
I know a lot of people are doing two year BSN’s as second degrees now but you need to have your prerequisites in line too. So maybe it’ll be like 3 years everything considered
But yea travel contracts been crazy since Covid. Before that you could get like 3-4k a week at most but now everything is 5-7k a week. You sign a contract for 12-15 weeks and work a few months at a time and get tax free housing stipends as part of your pay.
My current contract is 6k a week and I get 2300 of that tax free. Just make crazy money and can take several months off every year
Just keep in mind if you did do 2 years the travel scene is gonna look different when you finish. Probably back to 3-4k a week
Well what do you do rn
when you get a new phone and get insurance on it, im the guy that fixes it when you file a claim

i work 6 days a week gangy. posted from work lol.life thread did bear fruit tho, take a look at some of the advice ppl of any age can take from this thread. surface level comments like that don’t do much for anyone. sending love regardless we’ll all make it

CCNA/Cisco stuff is more vendor specific, as you might imagine, so it's gonna be used less. However, something like Network+ is vendor neutral, but CCNA is more in depth than Net+ (more practical stuff, rather than just concepts). I'd just say get N+ & Sec+ if you don't have a pre-existing foundation in networking (get Sec+ regardless if you wanna go into security).
Sec+ really isn't that bad and I'd say you really don't need to have taken A+ & N+ prior, unless you have no IT experience at all.
fwiw, I got my security job with just a Sec+. Saw a lot more responses with that on my resume.
Turned 26 this year and I’m still lost . how do i get a real career started that pays well? I feel like I’m capable I just don’t know where to look. Is going back to school really the only pipeline to 60k + a year??
