Sure there’s rappers that make good music without being super lyrical... but say it doesn’t matter in the genre it literally matters most?

Eh I’d say you just wouldn’t have to be a lyrical miracle ass nigga basically

He was a big inspiration for the start of hip hop. Especially when hip hop is almost considered poetry over wax. The foundations of hip hop isnt just the party scene

Okay but me basically just giving an example of where it started from flew over y’all heads, none of these lyrics are mind blowing for the s*** y’all try to praise today

Maybe everyone should just appreciate music for what it is, if he was a poet he definitely wanted niggas to love each other so where’s that at?

I'm confused but are u using rapper's delight as the start of rap ?

And did u want niggas to be rapping like Nas straight out the gate

What’s the start of rap since I’m soooo incorrect; is it King Tim III?

    That’s not what I said

I’m saying the original start of hip hop wasn’t lyrical so you don’t need be be lyrical miracle to make good music for the people who think that

  • Mar 30, 2020

In 2020 it’s mostly about the production. Sad! I need both

DJ kool herc, grandmaster flash, Afrika bambaataa are the actual inventors of hip hop

Sugarhill gang are the last people to cite as the start of rap

And the original start of rap was lyrical, a lot Zulu nations were literally poets using rap as a platform.

Well what you said was “Lyrical ability doesn’t matter in hip hop” which is f***ing asinine.

Rap skill isn’t the #1 key attribute to Hip-Hop, I agree with you there. Kanye’s the goat Hip-Hop artist but I’ll put at least people above him in terms of best rappers. Some people that overly rely on rhyming are sometimes wack I agree.

Hip-Hop started at block parties in the Bronx by DJ Kool Herc. The 4 tenants of Hip-Hop originally were Djing(production), Emceeing(rappin), B-Boying(dancing), and Graffiti(art). Nowadays it’s mostly the production and rapping people think about when it comes to Hip-Hop because s***s changed.

Saying rapping ability isn’t important though is just dumb. It’s not all that matters, but it matters.

too many people think that lyricism is just trying to fit as much multis, punchlines and double/triple/quadruple entendres as possible into a verse. meaningful and poignant lines are just as lyrical if not more than that other s***.

Who says they can change what the originators started?

That means that’s just a variation

Meaning we both are neither right or wrong

genres definitely change. you can make an argument against lyrical ability being pointless in our time but not by the way you argue your point

But that’s the think most people try to paint the picture as the rapping lyrical miracle s*** as the main part of hip hop, that was the whole point of this thread.

I’m not saying lyrics don’t matter I’m saying that the vibe that you bring, the content that you bring can override the dumb metaphors and all this other BS. If you got a message you can be good Idc

    Is this a @One thread?

  • Mar 30, 2020

The problem is that people think that you are only lyrical if you are rapping about certain topics.
Thats why people werent calling gangster rappers lyrical even though some of them could rhyme with some of the best
