Great thread idea! I use Insight Timer to clock the time and keep tracking it
Insight Timer is fire. Those bells really come in handy.
Had a Great session. Bumpin my time up to 45 mins tommorow. 30 minutes flies tf by now
back in HS i capped at a full hour, i worked my way up to that tho so im doing the same thing this time around.
This book is so good. It's mainly illustrations but they're too beautiful, and somewhat intense. I try to read it at least once a week.

Gonna peep this rn
Ur expectations prob too high bro its not gonna change life by itself.
It just strengthens your pre frontal cortex which is basically the conductor of your brain, the main region of learning, attention, and emotional control.
It Helps you develop the skill of separating your thoughts from yourself, thus making it easier to get out of negative thought loops by noticing them for what they really are: just thoughts. But meditating for a goal kinda defeats the purpose. youre not supposed to really feel s***, that aint the point. Just focus on your breath and notice thoughts, let em go, then go back to the breath. and keep doing that until over. Its like doing mind reps, and You aint gonna go to the gym after a week or 2 expecting a mike tyson body. But you will feel a bit good after 2 weeks.
May not sound big, cause it isnβt, but in a way it doesnt matter cause mindfulness is a super powerful tool regardless esp if you find it easy to fall into your emotions, or have lots of mental fog.
I know you like hiking, you could practice mindfulness by focusing on your steps on a trail, how your feet feel on the dirt, the activity going on in your body, listening passively to the sounds of nature like music. Thats meditation too
I definitely am present and mindful frequently during my day to day life. Be it washing dishes, riding my motorcycle to and from work, feeling the wind and swinging sensation in my hammock.
My utter mastery of sleeping at the drop of a hat doesn't help that's for sure lmao.
Anyway this thread is dope and it's inspired me. Few months ago Amex was giving away free year subs to the Calm app so I should dust that off and give it a shot.
This changed my life ,been doing consistently for over a year , and my god man

Fr its all i use the app for lol
I find it so hard to breathe when I meditate. Itβs like my bodyβs natural response is to grasp for air and stop my breath intermittently - like it is so wracked with nerves
But to focus on my breath and to exaggerate my breath is too unnatural for me

dont try to exaggerate your breath next time, just focus on your natural way of breathing.
what i do to focus on my breath is to focus on the sensation the air gives the inside of my nostrils, or i feel the mechanism of breathing (the pull and release of air of my lungs and diaphram) and hone in on that.
Do you think the "flow state" that comes with certain activities could be considered meditation?
When I'm rock climbing I feel very zen and present, it's just me and the wall and all my focus is on the next move.
Similarly when I'm on my motorcycle in the mountain roads blasting around I am utterly focused on the task at hand and it feels very zen.

Id say so. thats pretty much what meditation is, theres other ways to do it besides sitting down and focusing on breath. thats just the main process that people employ. The whole goal is mindfulness and awareness of the present moment.
but i will say that meditation is conscious. like before u go rock climbing or motorcycling just think to yourself that you are doing a meditative act before embarking.
being active in nature or somewhere with only you and awareness is definitely a meditative act. i used to hike alone and just listen to the sounds of nature, feel how the air feels around my body, etc. noticing my thoughts yet leaving them on the back burner, allowing them to come and go as they please.
Thats the essence imo. the only reason why the breath technique is so popular is cause its something we can always try to anchor ourselves to and the most readily accessible thing. active forms of meditation could be harder for alot of people cause they could get distracted easier. but if it works, if you are aware of the present moment and mindful of your thoughts, then it works.

That and being able to see who was meditating at the same time as you is pretty cool. I never fully understood the appeal of group meditation online till I saw that. Idk just makes me feel nice.
some of y'all that find it hard to do just mindful meditation should try transcendental meditation too.
kind of a different process and experience and could be helpful
Consciousness / Awareness is literally the only reality. If you aren't aware of something, then it quite literally does not exist in your reality. Being aware of something is creating it in your reality.
This is why meditation is so important. You are learning to shift your awareness from the exterior world to the inner world, your thoughts. You are literally altering your state of consciousness and this exercise, with enough practice, has the potential to reshape your entire life.
Meditation is very similar to shrooms.
