nas has rapped over some of the best beats ever

does he have the greatest ear for beats ever, no

but people make it seem like he's rapping over pure ass

    and that's just not true

The polarization of his beat selection pretty much shows that

What a person deems as a classic is subjective to them.

there is such a thing as a personal classic

but in talking about what goes on record

    what counts in GOAT debates

there absolutely is an objectivity to it based on agreed upon metrics

"If someone is on ktt they're probably serious about music and have thought a lot of what they like and why."

how long have you been on here

before i continue any further lol

I was browsing the old ktt for years. You got to realize half this place is trolls s***posting for likes. They don't mean half of what they say but once in a while we do have serious discussions and can actually talk about what we really like in depth

i guess at the end of the day

what i'm actually saying is this:

i take hip hop very seriously

and i wish we could debate things more often without all the negativity that usually comes with it

i think it's awesome for people to have their own opinions and it should be our shared passion that brings us together and also challenges us to see what's real and what's not

    because eventually we will
have to tell the story of hip hop

and i want to make sure that we get it right

i know not everyone loves the sports comparison

    but i view things similarly

there are people who say MJ is the best ever even though they've never watched him for real

i just want people to do
    their homework and then
    come to the table because
that is what we all deserve

coleman did you like the last jedi?

Not that you asked me but I'm a Star Wars nerd sooo. I didn't like it at all. I think 7 was great and 9 was pretty good. What's your ranking? I got:

    ROTS
    ESB
    ROTJ
    TFA
    Phantom Menace
    A New Hope
    Rise

    Clones

    -

    -

    -
    TLJ

Also, Rogue One was incredible and I thought Solo was better than people seem to think. Can't forget the projects created by the God himself, Dave F***ing Filoni. The Clone Wars, Rebels, Mandalorian, and the Bad Batch are near perfect shows

  • May 16, 2021

The EA was mid narrative is false but it’s tough to kill that story when Uzi himself is pushing it

the last jedi legitimately makes my blood boil to this day

and on the subject of narratives, i feel like that's actually around the time i started noticing how powerful they truly are

the idea that people don't like that movie because they wanted a typical star wars movie is so infuriating to me

    having now seen The Mandalorian

i feel that there is no excuse for what happened with the sequel trilogy as a whole but especially with the last jedi

    subverting expectations for
the sake of it is a sin if you
break the rest of the story

why rian johnson decided it was time to go left in the middle of the last trilogy is mind boggling to me

and if he wanted to pull from s*** like KOTOR 2 why would he stay so surface level with it?

why make rey nobody after they clearly set her up to be somebody

why make luke a hermit when his literal archetype is the most hopeful hero

    i just don't get it

they had a layup and blew it

    and that is so infuriating

    what happened with finn
    what happened with rey
    what happened with kylo

    all of it...

i gotta sip some water real
quick before i share my rankings

definitely respect you having revenge of the sith as your number one though

the tragedy of darth plaugeis the wise is maybe my favorite scene in all of the moves

Also the narrative that “rappers only rely on production now” is how people describe non-lyrical rappers when they don’t understand the value of delivery, cadence, rhyme, etc. They hear a wack bar and ignore all the other skills at play, chalking it up to “the producer carries them”

A lot of this thread is filled with s*** takes only seen on here and KTT2 is NOT a reliable source for thoughts on hip-hop. Go anywhere else and you won't see the bullshit people tend to post on here like "Yeezus is Kanye's best album"

Bruh you are clearly missing his point. Hes literally saying some people have the opinion

"tupac is top 5 greatest all time"

and can explain why they feel that way, and others have the opinion

"tupac is top 5 greatest all time"

and cannot explain why they feel that way because they don't think for themselves and just follow trends.

you know reading it back i realize now i was reading his statements too much. i think it was because he was posting ones he disagreed with and i just took it as discounting people’s opinions because of that. with your example i realized that’s all he meant by all of his posts. i just kinda turned the discussion into something else. sorry op 🙁

Good album but better than MBDTF, LR, TCD? Something people don't get is the difference between "best" and "favorite". I have no problem with anyone saying Yeezus is their favorite album. But to say its his best is saying that objectively, all his other albums were worse. Now music is opinions, but I still think there's objectivity involved when you phrase it that way. Tyler said something similar when he ranked his favorite tracks. He explicitly pointed out those were his favorite tracks, not what he thinks are his best

"Illmatic is Nas's only good album."

"Eminem is only popular because he's White."

    "Views is a classic."

Tbf Em himself said that. He said if was black he wouldn’t have sold half the records he sold.

I don't think this will ever happen, too many people on here derive pleasure from hot takes and getting a reaction from anonymous strangers on the internet they'll never meet. But I want this too KTT1 put me on to some lowkey artists I still listen to today, want more of that from here

em isn't em without being white

but his talent and love for hip hop
are the true reasons why he made it

would he have been as successful if he were black, prolly not

but selling half of what he's sold is still more than most rappers

and he'd be a hall of famer regardless imo

this is pretty much just the subjectivity vs. objectivity debate that we’ll honestly just have to agree to disagree on, but i’ll try to explain my reasoning. i consider LR his best now but yeezus is still my #2. yeezus simply trimmed the fat and has no tracks i really dislike, and i love the production and overall sound. i don’t feel like i could rank it above something else that i have issues with if i love everything about it.

not sure what objective qualities i would have to judge it on. if there truly was objectivity in these rankings there would just be one perfect list and a bunch of opinions, but that’s def not the case. nobody will ever agree on that s*** lol.
