Goblin and Cherry Bomb out now
Yeah man, all the 15 year olds and freshman girls at college could tell it was pushing the envelope
He was dominating the discourse in rap from the point Odd Future broke big, Jay-Z was trying to sign him - idk if CMIYGL put any new eyes on him in hip hop
Nah people still were very split on him he’s always been polarizing
Industry is different from the regular person, industry knows how to make money off niche s***.
Even when tyler made it big solo with flower boy a lot of people didnt even view him as a rapper
This video is a perfect example, Q bringing tyler up got little push back and i feel like he gained that w cmiygl in this video bc i vividly remember tyler still getting pushback from similar platforms after igor
It def wasn’t uninspired
I always notice its certain type of people saying that and i dont mean it in a disrespectful way so please don’t take it as that
The album is really a direct homage to the rap music he always cited as an influence his whole career, the In My Mind Prequel and actual album, Lupe mixtape run, CRS era s*** it felt like his take on it and I’m not saying it has to be liked but i feel like anyone who grew up on the s*** he was referencing understood what he was doing clearly and it was def coming from a place of inspiration , strong inspiration too bc its the s*** he loved growing up
Im not homosexual
Really????
Yes i hve experiment before and i kno. I am not gay. But iw ill say this about ur post. It is eye opening and i cant argue with u. Will gve another listen and take what u said and apply

IGOR is not more accessible, the singing is very divisive

Yeah I’d agree it changed a lot of minds/solidified positive opinions amongst a rap audience but the people listening to that album still knew who Tyler was prior to playing it, the project wasn’t his introduction to the scene; nobody in hip hop was like “oh wow, the Earthquake singer is rapping now!”
It stinks
bro do yall even read the thread ?

The question is, “was the album his most accessible?” I said in response “it stinks”. I apologize for any confusion that may have occurred in my thread correspondence.

Either way i think flower boy was the entry point for tyler as a solo artist, and igor and cmiygl went further solidifying him in specific sounds that flower boy was a mix of
for hip hop listeners yeah
for people who also listen to or prefer most other genres its still flower boy
Either way i think flower boy was the entry point for tyler as a solo artist, and igor and cmiygl went further solidifying him in specific sounds that flower boy was a mix of
I can fw that

cmon now
nobody in hip hop respected Tyler until CMIYGL, even with the Ye and Wayne feats
