    BIG early

    cmon now

nobody in hip hop respected Tyler until CMIYGL, even with the Ye and Wayne feats

I disagree, people in rap respected him and noticed the vision early on; hence Jay-Z trying to sign him. Unless we’re quantifying respect as “Ebro says nice things about you and not mean things”. He had a huge audience before CMIGYL, he had Ye and Pharrell-level collaborators before CMIYGL and rap always been his base; he just wasn’t in a heel role anymore when he got big interviews or did media spots

I think the album is bland and uninspired .

    Have to disagree,

I feel like the reason why it cut thru the way it did at the time is because of the specific mission he was on with the gangsta grillz theme and also nobody in the same space as him was making anything close to an inspired body of music

He was 10 years into his career at the time and still revealing new things about himself and creating new musical moments for himself in ways that felt extremely genuine

Understand if it’s not for you, but the actual content of the music was pretty impressive for an artist in the stage that he was in

He’s a lifer as a musician and I’m convinced through what he’s shown in his career that he will constantly find new ways to express himself and it’s only becoming more obvious to the general mass

Yeah I think people are taking it as we’re saying he wasn’t successful or nobody liked or respected him

What we’re saying is CMIYGL made it possible for tyler to be in top 5 rappers rn convos, i think we’ll really see that w his next album

Bc even when flower boy was out and buzzing u still woulda caught hell saying u thought tyler was top 5 out but u coulda said someone like big sean w no hassle. He just wasn’t respected amongst the average hip hop listener until recently but ofc he had success and lots of fans

definitely better than IGOR though, ill never get the appeal of that album

  • It's Flower Boy.

S*** was garbage. Sounded like Hidden NY. Almost shed rage tears when I saw faux-hot people applauding this joke of a project on twitter

    What are "faux-hot people"

  • CutiePieHole

I think the album is bland and uninspired .

jeez dude plenty of criticism you could prolly lop onto that album but bland or uninspired are definitely not among them

Lmao i don’t all the way disagree but what are the indicators that make it “sound like hidden NY”

that’s a fascinating description. I have more thoughts but I wanna let you say what you mean

  • Blue Genes

need him to go full stevie wonder on this next one tho

I want another “I’m a regular nigga now and rapping” album tbh

  • It's still Flower Boy imo

  • This is an amazing way to say a beat sucks lmao

And it’s even better because Pharrell has plenty of beats like this that “didn’t give us the same feeling it gave him” lmfao

  • Mar 6

    Igor better.

  • Nah, FlowerBoy more accessible/mainstream

If you're talking about what was said on the Cherry Bomb documentary, Tyler just wanted him to deliver part of his verse in a certain way and Pharrell didn't agree that it would sound better

  • hell no

  • CutiePieHole

    real asf

  • i think of it more like a side tape it’s too boring to me for a canonical tyler album

  • Mar 6

Probably the one I go back to the most. Good balance of sounds, not too long.
