  • Cause the only way to truly solve homelessness + mental health issues/drug addiction would involve a re-centering of priorities from government

I just can't help but think a solution to the homeless issue in NYC is to provide more available housing and better shelters with wellness services. Instead of like...putting up more "modern luxury" apartment buildings in low income neighborhoods that are about 80% empty because people can't even afford the rent.

@localblaccmane said it best here. But the city would never go for this cause in order for this to work, you'd have to pretty much wage war against every slumlord, lender, and developer that wants to get rich.

Check this reddit thread out, 4 years old but very poignant today

Thank Ronald Reagan and the Federal Reserve for that lol.

the situation of unaffordable housing is by design courtesy of the Federal Reserve. First the internet blew up the Dot Com bubble and then when it burst, Greenspan's plan was to inflate housing bubble 1.0 as the "economic recovery plan", which happened through repeal of glass-steagall and "affordable housing initiatives such as low introductory ARMs (which used to be illegal until Ronald (6) Wilson (6) Reagan (6) re-legalized them--thanks deregulation!), and then that combined with the unregulated mortgage derivatives market pushed unethical behaviour by giant hedge funds and investment and lender banks who were one and the same because of repeal of glass-steagall, so billions in paper gains led these banks to encourage giving anyone with a pulse a ridiculous loan and HGTV house flipping fever pushed the public right into it.

NOW, since 2008, the Federal Reserve has decided that the policy will be to keep interest rates lower than they've ever been for longer than they've ever been, which in turn, causes the costs of housing to rise because people buy on maximum monthly payment they can afford, but also because you have a newly wealthy Chinese middle class on the west coast buying anything, sight unseen to get assets of of China and the government goes along with it instead of putting a stop to it, and you also have what is known as mis-allocation of capital, where giant investment funds like Blackrock, instead of putting money in Treasury bonds, look to get a bigger return, thanks to low interest rates not paying enough, which causes Blackrock to buy tens of millions of houses, further restricting demand.

Bottom line: If you don't own a home, you've been f***ed by a criminal cabal, and at the top of the Cabal is the Federal Reserve.

Finally. If you don’t live in NYC or a place like San Fran you wouldn’t get it.

    We need this bad

Lol here come the humanitarians that are gonna claim it’s more humane to let these people live in the STREET than in mental health institutions

We have enough space in shelters for every single homeless person x2

Space isn’t the issue. Mental health is the issue. These people either refuse to take advantage of services at their disposal or they lack the ability to make sound choices.

Someone has to make the choice for them because letting them live in the streets benefits absolutely no one.

People itt talking about homeless people the same way white people who elected Giuliani were talking about black people

Damn you right. I guess none of that happened because people don’t experience these things, no way.

genuine question if they truly are extremely mentally ill why would you not want them hospitalized?

The way they will inevitably be treated as a result of this legislation will not leave them better off

It has rarely been the case and it has never happened under mayor Adam’s

There’s no way to determine who does and doesn’t pose a threat

What about the mentally ill who are housed? What about mentally ill homeless people whose first act is harmful?

Hospice care doesn’t rehabilitate and reintroduce the mentally ill. They keep them there forever. How do we contend with paying for this?

We solve nothing, just waste more tax dollars and get 2-3 people off the street in exchange for ruining the lives and removing the agency of hundreds of other individuals

"How do we contend with paying for this?" 🌚

I’d happily pay for social programs that actually f***ed worked this will just keep people off the street and not rehabilitate them and itnroduce them into a healthy and socially engaging environment

I think its better to get them off the street and at least try to help. They shouldnt be allowed to ruin public spaces unchecked.

    all cause of capitalism.

like it's so many better ways to address this issue that niggas are just not gonna do cause of moneys lmao

lol homelessness and mental illness is not because of capitalism lmao. even if you gave them a free room doesn't mean they would live in it or take care of it. There are homeless shelters and people would rather be homeless then follow rules of shelter.

Migrants from down south are flooding NYC, to live in those shelters! The conditions are fine, bums out here want to cause mayhem being tweakers in public. They don't want to follow rules.
