I’m literally saying that this is not something that will sustainably solve any of the consequences of rampant homelessness or any of its root causes people just think that this will magically solve these peoples homelessness or their mental illness

It won’t! These people will come back to the street regardless, except they now fill hospital beds that might actually be used. There needs to be a fundamentally different approach

I agree, this is not the answer

"On going care" in reality is just giving them a case manager in the hopes that they follow through with whatever treatment options given.

    Hmmmm

You from nyc? If so where at

    I am

And wha you’re suggesting is stupid, you should definitely know nyc hospitals rn are not in top shape to do that.

It’s mad empty and overpriced spots up here in harlem that nobody is in

  • Short term solution to a fundamental problem, which is that there is zero access to mental health services unless you're rich or have already cracked. You want to divert these people from the jacking off on the subway-to-prison pipeline before they're jacking off on the subway, not after.

It is a better option than just leaving them on the street, that’s what you’re not understanding. No one is saying it’s a great permanent solution.

I love how like @localblaccmane literally just named a solution and after agreeing with said solution, you (and a lot of other folks here that don’t be reading) assume me disagreeing with Eric F***ing Adams is the same thing as me wanting to keep unstable motherfuckers like the nigga that chased me all the way from my job site on Grand St til the L on Lorimer, out on the street

What I’m saying is this solution aint gonna work in the short term either! These facilities are overpacked with “regular” niggas and you wanna push them to the limits even more just so you can have this white ass NIMBY type outlook on them?

There are literally empty buildings in the city and you of all ppl should know that. Tell the city to stand up to the goddamn slumlords and developers and actually try to help these people get off the street. Persecution is not gonna solve this mental health issue, empathy is. Especially cause “forced hospitalization” aint new lol

I highly doubt they would do this if it wasn’t plausible but I digress

They tried housing the homeless in hotels during Covid and guess what happened? The locals were pissed off, wealthy areas of Manhattan became less safe with increased d*** use, and none of the people got back on their feet or received mental health support at the end of the day.

Everyone always wants to house up the homeless in empty units but nobody wants it to be THEIR neighborhood. That’s the issue. We have other people in this city to consider. A lot more people just living their lives trying to get to work than the 3,500 homeless on the street that may or may not snap at any given time.

These people living in the street do not need a free apartment. That isn’t going to help the root of the problem. They need treatment and rehab.

Yeah but we gotta work on imprisoning showtimers though

Simply putting people in apartments and assuming they’ll fix everything is wrong

However, housing is a very important part of a multifaceted and multi step approach to these kinds of problems that include rehab, public work projects, anti-drug paroling, and social societies (clubs, meetings, organizations, and union) that all need to work in tandem

The problem is that this doesn’t make money for anyone involved and for some reason we decided that was what we should worry about before helping people
