Me after realizing that all I had to do was lower/adjust my pace in order to increase my jogging distance without getting burned out fast
I could really beast mode this s*** if I quit vaping
If let's say a pair of running shoes lasts 300 miles (at minimum), are ppl buying new shoes like every 4 months or so?

I usually have mine for a year but I have several pairs I alternate with. When I see a shoe I like go on sale I buy a couple pairs.

you can get a lot more than 300 out of most shoes. and yeah buy two pairs if you can, running shoes have a bit of a resting period for the foam to form back after each run. it makes sense to switch around and extend their lifespan
plus, most people who do 18 miles a week (per your estimations) have like 9 random pairs lying around my run chat is people constantly giving that s*** away for free with often light mileage

Yeah I think it was more 400 rather 300.
1 more pair for speed work or just for more daily runs?
lol 9 pairs is WILD but giving them away is nice

way these sales work you get a bunch of pairs for $60 and just stack em during the year. some pairs work better than others and you run in them more, others just sit as backups because theyre not as enjoyable to run in but still get the job done. for your very first pair I strongly suggest going to a specialized store and let a specialist help you
I dont really differentiate between speed and daily, I got one cushioned pair (Hoka Bondi 7) for easy long runs, and another (Mizuno WaveRider 25) that has less material and therefore works better as a trainer. but I run the same kind of workout in both and pick more cushioned pair for uneven routes and races
Yea don't get a bunch of vaporflys or alphaflys like content creators have
Im still buying Gel Nimbus 25s, Magic Speed 2s, even though the 26s and 3s are out.

Yeah I did exactly that for my first pair. Tried on a pair of brooks, sauconys and mizuno and I left with a pair of adidas lol. Turns out I got a super overpronation. Ah ok that's good to know

idk how old you are and idk you so take this as any advice on the internet, but go talk to an orthopedist/podiatrist about it. if you start running this will no pun intended catch up with you unless you get orthotics and proper care. if untreated it might result in injury; I was recovering from it this and last year bc I ran too much and too hard. that resulted in my legs being in constant pain. I went to the doc and it was all due to my untreated overpronation (albeit it was mild)
yes its more money to spend on running but you should wear orthotics outside of running too so its a sound investment. just had to mention it, you should do at your discretion
this the dark side of all social medias man. ya im calling strava a social media lmfaoooo. comparison just steals your joy, makes u feel like u not doin enough or whatever. gotta focus on your own s***, compete against you of yesterday yfm

Dam, thank you for the sound advice. Good looks. Somewhat unrelated, I got injured playing hoops and I took 2 weeks off last month in order to properly rest and recover.
Does anyone here run in the rain? (Inb4 "it's summertime") I wanna give it a try but sweat and rain seems like a real icky feeling to me

I got a running poncho and also have a pair of goretex running shoes lol. I ran here in NY last Saturday when it rain without the shoes, with my poncho, but rain never bothered me. Only time I nope out from running is when it’s thundering and the wind is blowing like crazy.

They just have been cathartic
I think I have shin splints from going too hard as a beginner, I was able to do 5k in 30 min a few weeks ago, but my legs tap out at around the second mile now. Should I just I take a couple weeks off and go back in with some slower runs or do I really have to ice them every day? I only feel the pain when im running.

Ice them down after you run, eventually it goes away.

So keep running and power thru it by icing after every time? Or should I wait a week or two for them to heal before I run again?
