Genuinely curious question, is there a certain year of rap that’s like the cut off point for you to listen to?
i can't sit all day and convince oldheads to not like what they like but it's annoying that y'all trash s*** y'all clearly don't f***ing understand or connect with and then wonder why everybody trashes on old music when y'all be so f***ing annoying about current music 24/7

anyways hip-hop is the goat genre
s/o to every era even with their superhero raps back in the day
Imagine not being pretentious... That's why rap is in the state that it is now
wrong! pretention is not the same as appreciation!
people can be just as pretentious and elitist in the commercialized and watered down world that we’re in today but the real catalyst is how people choose to appreciate rap, whether it be as a form of product or as the art that it truly is
i like 808s more. paid in full is more of a classic and is more influential. 808s is the blueprint for a lot of r&b, pop and rap in modern times but rap can legit be split into pre rakim and post rakim that album is that influential

pretty much lol
niggas was doing dr seuss type raps before rakim showed people how to rap lmao. he revolutionised the whole genre
paid in full isn't even their best album, which says a lot because their discog is amazing

definitely have to agree with you there cause follow the leader is definitely better to me
How come rap is the only genre where the newer fans disavow older classic influential acts.
Pop fans don't swear off madonna or MJ
Rock fans dont swear off van halen or pink floyd
Metal fans don't swear off black sabbath
Smh
It's possible to like Thug, Lil Baby, Future, Kodak, Polo G, etc.
&
Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Run-DMC, LL

follow the leader is for sure their best album. f***ing loveeee that album. rakim's technique improved, the production is better yet gritty af. i love it.

can't really speak on other fanbases for other genres since i've definitely spent way less time with those than with hip-hop but i think with hip-hop in particular it's just a conflict between the old generations and the current generation it feels magnified in hip-hop and i'm not quite sure why

who said they were disavowed? it’s just unrealistic to expect someone to listen to music from so far back in a genre that’s gone through as many stylistic changes as rap

yup
wanna point out microphone fiend cause that s*** is too damn good lol
there are definitely people who swear off those older artists in rock for sure too

yea lmao
seen it with pink floyd that's for certain but that's also ppl online i refuse to talk to rock fans irl lol
Both great but Rakim rap style is still probably the single biggest shift in hip hop and the most singular style. More timeless than 808s
comparing a classic to a mid ass album
Was about to ask which one you referring to then I saw your username
I prefer 808s but 808s a top 15 album oat for me any genre
Taking nothing away from Paid In Full tho, the title track is easily one of my fav songs oat such a great beat
Imagine being a young nigga and choosing paid in full.
And that’s no knock against paid and full but it’s like come on bruh
i like 808s more. paid in full is more classic of course but thats partially because its a lot older

Wait you’re 22 and cosplay as a 43 year old from Brooklyn on the internet?
