Bringing out the dead above Taxi Driver, Raging Bull & The Departed is a jokeeeee
Easily above the Departed bro. I'd place Taxi Driver on the same level as BoD, and I'll probably do the same with Bull once I rewatch

Mann is one of my fav filmmakers but I never understood the love for that movie. It’s like the most mid 80s thriller template movie I can imagine.

Badlands 5?
Tenet 8?
Explain this chief

The cinematography, the music, the directing as a whole, the themes about obsession in this movie are all amazing. Don’t know what’s mid about it tbh.

Tenet 8?

Badlands is extremely straight forward and generic I feel. Didn’t care one bit about the characters or the story. Felt extremely dumbed down.
Tenet is great. Yeah, the characters are bland and it’s not really focused as a story but it’s also Nolan at his most ambitious and experimental as a filmmaker. It has incredible action, the editing is absolutely unreal, and it’s Nolan trying to genuinely do something that’s never been done before. I respect it a great deal and it’s a very fun watch.

Cinematography is good but Mann’s weakest from what I’ve seen of his. The music was meh I feel. And the obsession theme is why I was so underwhelmed by it. It felt so safe and generic and it never truly took a real storytelling risk with it. Guy just gets obsessed but it’s just there for fake drama mostly cuz we get the predictable good guy wins ending anyway.

Agree to disagree I guess, rest of your Mann ratings are on point although I’d switch Public Enemies with Manhunter. Haven’t seen Ali yet.
