Mann is one of my fav filmmakers but I never understood the love for that movie. It’s like the most mid 80s thriller template movie I can imagine.

Carrie not being his best movie
Not even close
You've seen nothing
Badlands is extremely straight forward and generic I feel. Didn’t care one bit about the characters or the story. Felt extremely dumbed down.
Tenet is great. Yeah, the characters are bland and it’s not really focused as a story but it’s also Nolan at his most ambitious and experimental as a filmmaker. It has incredible action, the editing is absolutely unreal, and it’s Nolan trying to genuinely do something that’s never been done before. I respect it a great deal and it’s a very fun watch.
I mean the "straight forwardness" is one of the best things about Badlands. Its about love in a very unambiguous way, she loves him and he loves her. The open road is almost another character in the film in itself, had no reason to be anymore complicated than that.

idk, I feel like if I want a romance story about a couple on the road or on the run or whatever, Malick did it way better with Days of Heaven
