lotta directors make classic movies as well as lots of s*** garbage, they just aren't as high profile as ridley scott
i guess i agree partly, there are a lot amateur video essayists out there that if you really listened to them, they really aren't saying much at all.
but you really seem to harp on the existence of critics because.. what? they have the ability to change a person's opinion on something?
Critics are fine. I just think there isn’t much value in seeking those opinions out before watching the films first. So many people these days will watch s*** like this, go thru entire Letterboxd review sections, or opinions on twitter before even watching it themselves. So in general I think the entire medium is devalued and approached wrong by most.
More so, I think focusing on nitpicking an obvious legend to summarize him as a hack is one of the most disingenuous assertions I’ve seen made in awhile.
