this is how it is now with all genres tbh. Even Billie Eilish (although her last album did decent) was thrown to the curb for Olivia Rodriguez.
With streaming, so much new music is at your fingertips each week.
If you aren't releasing consistently (singles/loosies/albums/features) with a streak of quality, its easy for listeners to find someone else to "replace" you.
In addition to streaming (or I guess branching off streaming) releasing music is alot easier now too
