Flosh@op be on top of cleanliness. I might be OD but I wash their dishes every time they empty it. Water or wet and dry food (I do a combination of both, a can like every other day. They love that fancy feast turkey one

He may need time or perhaps he wants a different one. Some cats like scratching horizontally and s*** like that.

u should look to place it right by areas of the home you spend a lot of time at--like next to the couch, next to the bed is where i have mine
cats also might have a preference as to scratching vertically vs horizontally, so you can look into getting both
but also, put some catnip onto your existing scratcher so the cat notices it and realizes it can scratch
and even then it might take like a month for it to incorporate it into its routine lol
i bought a vertical scratcher for my cat so he wouldnt scratch my couch and it literally took him a month to start using it lol
