Americans still confusing Social Democracy with Socialism?
Y'all gotta finally diversify your political landscape and abolish that two party system, it doesn't work anymore in such a polarized environment. Gotta change the way your 'democracy' works, else the oligarchs are gonna run your y'all government forever. I have hope though with all the grass root movements coming up.

Don't be afraid to change the constitution and give the people more power.
Swiss did it too, they also have a lot of social policies, a universal healthcare system, aid for the poor and almost free universities.
    Still they rich af.

Semi-direct democracy, I vouch for it. Decisions take longer this way, but most of the time you'll have a solid result and laws that everyone agrees on.

The Ministry for State Security in the GDR, dubbed the Stasi, was one of the most ruthless and oppressive intelligente agencies in the word. In total, it captured about 250 thousand political prisoners and used one of the most effective torture methods, known as Zersetzung (decomposition in German). Instead of openly attacking suspects, the Stasi would indirectly harass them by disrupting their family lives. This often included psychological attacks, such as breaking into homes and subtly manipulating the contents, in a form of gaslighting – moving furniture, altering the timing of an alarm, removing pictures from walls or replacing one variety of tea with another. (15) Perhaps, most terrifyingly, it is estimated that 27 percent of all Stasi members were previous members of the Nazi party in 1954. The Stasi cotinuted giving leeway to Nazi officials and far-right people till the end of communism. (16)
