But when that internet hate snowball gets rolling it’s hard to stop

Definitely think it was a steep decrease in quality but I think the internet hate on Chance himself was from how he was acting prior to the album dropping.

Bro was a d***head so the internet couldn’t wait to humble him.

Never listened but I bet it’s probably fire since these internet cancellations only happen to art and people that are too ahead of thier time

oh. well the fact Mach-Hommy isn't getting pushed towards 12 year olds on tik tok is because he doesn't have the money behind him to do it unfortunately. like not even to be short with you, it's as simple as that. that's a separate, and pretty quick discussion lol

Because Chance doesn’t have a problem with weed, he still smokes weed so I don’t think its something he views as a negative

A song about smoking weed with your homies is positive to me thats a good thing to do. I can maybe see if Chance came out and renounced weed how it isnt a positive for him but I dont think that song came from a bad or addictive place

Also sadness isn’t negative, sadness is a lot of the time how we reflect, grow, and comes from a place of empathy or positive conscious usually and Id say that’s definitely the case of the sadness on Acid Rap

I think you’re equating positivity and happiness and I just don’t view it that way. I view positivity as something that has a positive effect which I feel like Acid Rap does

But I don't think he was just talking bout weed in that song. More like "do d**** again" than just smoke again

Like these are lines in that song

Tell shorty I may change and I made it and I napalm
Trippy s*** to watch, d**** while on the clock
Acid on the face, that's a work of art

I don't think sadness is negative either, a song like same d**** is also sad. Like @insertcoolnamehere said his mindstate making that album is just very different from either 10 days or coloring book.

I think where we differ in opinion here is I think his reflection of sadness isn't the same on these albums.

But yeah that's a valid point tho on how it affects u personally

Been 4 years and bro couldnt sell tickets touring for this album

  • it's not enough for the music to simply be good, unforunately. a lot of great music gets lost to the business. or never makes it there

And if all the money is consistently behind the negative s*** and the positives as you say “dont make it to that level” thennnn we circle back to my original damn point

Not to be dismissive of your point but I kind of feel the same way about acid. Like acid is definitely a d*** you can have a bad time with it if you don’t do it in moderation and ik Chance chilled out on Acid because it isnt really a d*** u wanna be doing for a long time consistently but his real problem was with X**** so I don’t think Smoke Again came from a place of him struggling with addiction or even being sad or in a negative place. I think he was young and getting high with his friends, I dont see that as a negative thing but idk i also genuinely think doing psychedelics and smoking weed is a good thing that most people should try.

Im not even saying Acid Rap is as positive as Coloring Book he def seemed like he was in a more mature and reflective state of mind that era, but to dismiss all of the positive sounds and messages that Acid Rap has to offer because he was doing acid and talking about the realities of his upbringing isn’t fair to the project. For a 19/20 year old black man Chance had a great head on his shoulders and a great outlook on the world

no, i didn't say the "positives don't make it to that level." that's your argument.

i said Self Luh by Mach-Hommy, the specific example you just provided, hasn't been pushed to 12 year olds on tik too due to the lack of financial backing. the music biz for ya.

on the contrary, my first post in the thread said there's an abundance of positive stuff. a following post even gave current year examples. i think i'm one of like two others who actually provided any lol. but i'll stop now since we can't find a place to agree

It doesn’t sound like something 12 year olds would like if they were exposed to it in the first place tbh

Thats also true, was just mostly speaking bout it in that way because he kinda looks at his usage of acid in that way. But yeah it was mostly X**** that f***ed him up

Yeah I'll give u that, there's definitely some positive aspects in acid rap, the interlude the first that comes to mind.

For lack of a better term I think it's just missing that "Redemption arc" aspect to it like GKMC is riddled with dark and serious themes but it comes together as using his story for a positive message. I don't really get that from acid rap, in a way. But maybe I'm being too harsh on it

To me there’s a very fine line though. Sometimes it can be very endearing but it’s very easy to come off as disingenuous

Your edit hit it on the head

I feel where you’re coming from for sure and GKMC is a good example of that for sure but its also a story that happened nearly 10 years before the album came out so it was probably easier to reflect and give the story a proper arc

Vs Acid Rap was just a moment of chances life so it doesnt have as much of an arc bc he hadn’t lived the arc yet if that makes the sense

Actually makes me think about how Chance was really building a discography that gives real snapshots into what his life was at different points with his first 3 mixtapes but I do think the big gap in time since then has kinda killed that off for him

Yeah also that. Like I don't think reflection is either negative or positive, unless its framed that way. It's neutral to me.

Yeah he's kinda like ye in that regards of making projects that are snapshots. Even big day to an extent. Wonder how that will be shown in his next album

acid rap and coloring book were super positive and super successful

“yall hate the big day because it’s too happy” was always a terrible argument against criticism
