These days yeah probably. I feel like back in the day positive music was received better. Be by Common comes to mind

Be by Common wasn't just sunshine & rainbows though

    it was rooted in reality

songs like Testimony & Chi City are a bit dark or not as 'motivational' but necessary to let people feel the Value of Common being Common and not making the same music as everybody else. He gives his background and tells the story of Black America.

TBD is a weak album because there's very little contrast at all

    and no depth

he is just celebrating being married as if marriage itself is a virtuous thing, over that entire album we learn nothing about who his wife is or what makes their relationship special

no meat on the bones, you can tell Chance didn't have too much to say fr

I was listening to the album a few weeks ago and there were still glaring holes (that smi verse on Eternal still has me like ) that make me think back to why I didnt like this album as a whole

But then, songs like Do You Remember, We Go High, 5 Year Plan, Town Of The Hill, Handsome, and Slide Around are still on that album too.

    But that’s 6 songs of a 23 song album.

Do you still feel the same about the album or has your opinion changed?

And a comment I heard on a podcast years ago about this reception saying “I don’t like my music with this much positivity” and thinking of @YoungNastyShawty Noname interview of how in black art we love our s*** dark and traumatic, makes me wonder is there such thing as a positive album that can be well received in these current times?

On that note: post any favorite albums current or past that you feel are pretty positive!

my favorite positive album to listen to right now is Music by Benny Sings
