lol facts. I was (still kinda am) considering going back to school for a graduate degree only to escape the post-grad life.

This s*** depressing foreal and I don’t blame people for wanting going back to school. Tens of thousands of dollars in debt and no little to no jobs that would allow us to pay it back without starving. The system broken.

    Experience > paper degrees

How tf are you supposed to get experience if you have no connections to get in the field that you wanna have experience in?

Bro internships or starting at the bottom or freelancing prior to graduation

Start studying for your cpa maybe. That’s cheap to get and may help.

A lot of it is probably still in your recent memory so nows not a bad time to do it

literally all my friends who graduated college (7 years ago) all have pretty high paying jobs or have just started opening their own businesses + they all newly married + own homes n s*** and can afford to vacay to really nice places like every other month.

while all my homies who didn’t go to college are all just working random jobs or getting promoted at dead end workplaces but still able to support themselves n s*** but their igs def way less lit/fun lol

just stick w it if your are almost finished.

everyone on ktt always looks down on ppl who don’t own a business or who don’t mind working for someone else but tbh once y’all grow older I feel like your opinions might change.

also op j have a friend who’s been working in accounting for about 8-9 years now makes great money but the first two years after graduating college he had to live w his parents and he just worked for his uncle until he found a real job.

trust me it might suck now but you have a way better chance at eventually landing a high paying job over someone w/o a degree.

It's only worth it if you're trying to go into something that you're really interested in and pays well. IDK why people go to college for 4 or more years to get a degree that earns them 40k a year. I hope the best for you, good luck with finding a job and do what makes you happy.

Also IDK your relationship with the girl you met but Houston is a great city with a lot of jobs available, good lifestyle, low cost of living, ect.

OP it's not the college's fault you didn't get experience while doing 6 years of coursework

Get your LinkedIn game up. You'll have a solid gig within the next 6 months if you put in work.

If u rly dig in and look for relevant jobs you will definitely find one

From what I know ppl want accountants who are good with the billing software? If u have experience doing actual accounting u should be fine I'd think.

Either way the worst thing u could do for ur career is get a job that's irrelevant to ur education

also for all the young ktt kids.

there is absolutely nothing wrong w going to community college if you plan on transferring somewhere better

Don’t let your immigrant parents make you think otherwise

CC is especially useful for those who don’t know what they wanna do/major in.. Instead of being undeclared for two years at a uni and paying crazy money just to take GE classes you can do all that at CC for the low.

Only thing that sucks about CC is it just feels like high school 2.0 but just focus on getting out of there in two years.

I just turned in my final thesis paper for my masters accounting capstone class and I’m finally done with college forever.

I am sad that I’m leaving the town I spend almost 8 years in I am also so depressed knowing that I spend 8 years living alone and now I’m going back to live with my parents

My parents are open to me going anywhere I want but it’s easier said than done. I also know so many friends that have their masters and still struggling to find a job or working making $18 an hr.

School is really a trap fam. I know like 5 dudes with a full college education still living with their parents cause they still can’t afford to live alone.

On top of all this I met this gorgeous girl who is moving to Houston, while I’ll be stuck in Illinois in this cold ass weather searching for jobs and s*** i haven’t been this depressed in a while man

Let me holla at the houston girl if you cant have her tbh

I moved to Dallas with my fam before permanently moving to Illinois so I know Texas is lit. I have been to Houston twice and I didn’t like it as much as Dallas but I heard Houston and Dallas are the top most lit affordable cities to live in. The only thing that holds me back is that it’s gonna be very far away from home and this girl doesn’t even know how long she will stay there

Hey man, I got a Bachelor’s in Information Systems & got in the exact same situation. I worked at a goddamn IT call center for 2 years outta college, only making $15/hr, while spending an avg of 1 hr per call walking 50 year olds through resetting their Apple ID PW

However, I got reached out to IT staffing agencies & got IT certifications, and now have a great IT job making $50k/year

My advice to you is to look into Accounting staffing agencies in your area, get as many other Accounting certifications you can, and apply to 1-2 jobs per day. Make sure you customize your resume & cover letter for each job you apply to, and tailor it to the job requirements listed in each job posting.

Hang in there man! It’s a harsh realization that having a degree is no longer enough, but you CAN get through this!!!!
