I'd recommend The House in Fata Morgana. It was one of the first couple ones I read a couple years back and it remains my favorite piece of media by far (along with Umineko). The story, characters, music, and art are something else. I think it was the first thing that has made me break out in tears several times
It should be on sale on all platforms rn (PS4/Switch versions have updated backgrounds, portraits, and the epilogue, so I'd go for those over Steam if possible).
!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M11KQ1zwGZo!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=todEMAhh3b4It's not very long either; about 25-30 hours for the main story, then another like 15-20 hours for the prologue & epilogue.
I'd also say Umineko, but it is very long (like 120+ hours) and not sure if I'd really wanna recommend it as someone's first read lol. But if you f*** with murder mysteries, it's about as good as it gets.
Thanks for the sick rec dude im picking up a PS4 soon so Ill def put this on my list
bro the Magic ending where everyone was welcoming Battler back hit me like a f\*\*\*ing freight train. My ass was bawling when I got to it. I don't think I can watch it again without crying lmao
This and Fata Morgana are truly out of this world man
What're your overall thoughts on it?
Might've peaked with VNs with this & Fata Morgana, the bar is too high now
Yeah that was the part that really got me, I nearly broke so hard They're all dead
Wild ass ride for sure and seems very replayable/readable. During the story I kept wondering if I liked this or Higurashi more, they both have likes and dislikes. Higu felt more alive at times and I liked that creepy ass village atmosphere, those kids & Ooishi were goat. But Umineko was def the better VN. Had a better main villain, better adult characters, better protag, more emotional and oh s*** moments, and THAT soundtrack. I'm the oddball & thought EP1 had the best vibe, that build up to Beatrice showing up & Maria singing in a bloody room was chilling. Think EP 3, 6, 7 were my other favorites.
I'm dumb af and wasn't 100% sure that Shannon & Kanon were the same which equaled "Sayo Yasuda" and BOTH made up Beatrice until late late lol confusing, should've known after that creepy ass Shannon scene in the beginning of EP7\. Finding out that the scenario from EP7's tea party with Kyrie's crazy ass & Rudolf was how the Rokkenjima Massacre actually went down (according to the manga) was sad af and Sayo never actually murdered anyone? Still confused.
Is there non anime VN out there?
I would recommend The House in Fata Morgana which is what @wes just recommended up above.
Not sure what you would consider anime but the art style for this is really unique

No problem. I'm here to spread the Fata Morgana gospel
Hope you post your thoughts on it whenever you get around to reading.

I imagine re-reading it and knowing what happens would be crazy (and actually having an idea of how the murders are carried out lol). I'm also a huge fan of ep 1 due to the setting and really just having no clue what the hell to expect with it all.
As for what's actually "true", I think it depends on the POV you're looking at it from (basically with or without "love"). I'd look up an explanation because I'd butcher the hell out of attempting to give you one. I looked one up after I finished and had a lot of "ohhhhh" moments.
You aren't lying about the soundtrack either. Definitely one of my all time favorites.
Theory Time
Okay so Playing Higarashi 1 and after the end of Chapter 11 (Chapter ends with Rena standing outside Keiichis house) and the “Tips” section (Split personality tip mentions “Person A having 7 split personalities), I have a theory that Im 99% convinced of. I’m not convinced any of these girls are “real” and they are actually all split personalities. Keiichi, Rena, Mion, Rika, Satoko, Satoshi (possibly the previous Keiich personality) and 1 more person (idk) might actually all be the same person, which explains how they all seem to be aware of his every action; at first every single person in Minizawa collectively reporting his every action seemed to be what was really going on but Rena claiming she was stood “right behind him” whilst he was shopping for instant noodles WHILST his parents was with him has me kinda convinced she isn’t real; which makes me think what else in this VN isnt real? Ooshi is really unconcerned about the safety of Keiichi because he probably knows he is actually insane
Edit: Finished Higurashi 1 and I’m not convinced of my theory anymore since the news report at the end of the game stated that Mion and Rena died.
Still think that Keiichi is insane asf has some kind of split personality and is somehow responsible for what is going on tho, I’m not convinced any of the girls are twisted right now. Also no way am I believing in some curse; I read Umineko im not new to this s\*\*\*

Yeah I have to reread it cause I'm still confused on how some of the murders were done even if I know the "culprit". Battler's locked room mystery and who shot Nanjo still got my brain fried.
Lambdadelta's such a real one, Battler beating up Bernkastel was hilarious, Chiester Sisters being Maria's toys was crazy, Erika seems like she's some sort of persona of Ange, Genji was kinda underbaked. Kinzo is still a pos
I'm just now finding out that Tetsurou Okonogi from Higurashi, is president of the Ushiromiya Group in Umineko. Forgot his name & didn't recognize him at all lol
That beat drop at 2:10 on The Executioner gets me to bob my head every damn time
These with the rain sfx in the background

also the first time "where" played is one of the most insane experiences I was not expecting that s*** with Kannon at all
Oh man enjoy that experience
Really good so far, Mion is my favourite out of the characters shes hilarious also really cool seeing Rika and Satoko knowing their relationship in Umineko

Loved that part of the episode, Featherine ain't have to dismember her like that
Wasn't expecting that either
Really good so far, Mion is my favourite out of the characters shes hilarious also really cool seeing Rika and Satoko knowing their relationship in Umineko
Mion Also liked Rena. Umineko got me hating Rika
Higurashi 2 finished, Rena was on some MVP s*** this chapter and Keiichi is competing for the dumbest MC of all time; thats my MC
I don’t have any theories cause idk wtf is going on
Shion/Mion had me so mad at the start man lmao, had this real emotional scene with Mion having an identity crisis that kinda convinced me that Shion wasn’t an actual twin then it turns out that Shion is actually real and Keiichi never got the chance to apologise to Mion and give her the doll; I’m glad that s\*\*\* came back to him cause I really wanted him to give her that doll
People are dying, getting replaced by doppelgängers and then killing other people; seems like I can’t trust tips since the reports are getting revised to account for the doppelgänger deaths instead of the real deaths
Keiichi just hallucinating Mion at the end of the chapter was amazing
Also f\*\*\* Ooishi, I swear that every time Keiichi talks to him Ooishi plants some seeds of doubt which lead him to his death
Decided to scoop up Cyanotype Daydream and give it a read since I saw it does the Fata Morgana thing with separate stories that end up intertwining.
Production value was pretty high, music was really nice (reminds me a lot of the Fata Morgana Reincarnation OST), art was great, and loved the main characters. Story gets DUMB depressing too. Had me tearing up at several points
Was nice to read another modern VN with more budget than some pocket change Translation wasn't super hot at some points though, which really didn't bother me too much, but the typos were definitely noticeable.
Really solid read overall. Need more stories like this and Fata Morgana man
In the middle of Higurashi 5 and Shion gotta be my favourite character shes so selfish man I love her
In the middle of Higurashi 5 and Shion gotta be my favourite character shes so selfish man I love her
Oh man, that f***ing chapter
Next chapter was top 3 for me also
You're right, Shion goated
Finished Higurashi 7: Minagoroshi
Man the final moments of this chapter was insane, I really believed that Rika might come through and make a miracle happen but I completely forgot they literally revealed that Takano murdered Tomitake in the previous chapters. The moment Keiichi got shot was just crazy, they really just dropped the whole gang
Rika saying this was hard as f\*\*\*; im rooting for her so hard man
I always knew Takano was a crazy b\*\*\*\* but I was not expecting her to be that crazy, her performance in every scene after that reveal was just amazing. I stan. Also funny that most of the s\*\*\* Rena was saying in Higurashi 6 was actually true with the diseases and s\*\*\*; I should have know by now not to doubt text in red

So f***ing mad I missed this

Started Full Metal Daemon Muramasa the other day. About 10 hours in and it's been pretty damn good. Think it's already had me drop my jaw twice with some of the stuff that's happened. Also, despite it being incredibly dark at some points, the deadpan/dry humor is genuinely hilarious.
Really have no idea what to expect, but definitely looking forward to see where this story goes.

Keep it in there
I do wanna know what you think whenever you get around to reading that. I am definitely in the minority in thinking it's not that good. I just cannot see what people like about it so much Knowing that it is/was supposed to be part 1 of 3 (or something) makes a lot of sense, since I feel like there's just a lot more than could've been explored. Definitely felt like it was cut entirely too short.
