it had better music in general. fma 2003 is just better overall in characterization, emotion, and philosophy. people only prefer brotherhood because it’s more cheerful
Also didn’t like how scar seemed redesigned in brotherhood. He looks way younger to me in the OG

facts all the characters look way too cartoony to me they took away the details like edwards hair texture and they even made scars story more cheerful. how is he a free man at the end of brotherhood after all the soldiers he killed? him going out as a martyr and making the philosopher stone in fma was more fitting

glad to see this opinion
brotherhood is great in it’s own right, but 2003 FMA just hits harder
think we scared op like the last time someone made a “what anime should I watch” thread
Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood is a must watch
Surprised this took so long to get mentioned, I haven’t seen a ton of anime but this feels like a must see
Samurai Champloo? The Promised Neverland?
I can second The Promised Neverland nothing like a good prison escape story!

I’ve only seen brotherhood bc from what I heard the original doesn’t follow the authors storyline

I was always meaning to come back itt, tbh I wasn't expecting so many responses since my request seemed so generic, but I'm glad to have so many recs! It makes me a little more excited to continue to explore anime seeing how many different options there are
My 'short-term' list rn is:
Serial Experiments Lain
FLCL
Revolutionary Girl Utena
Trust and Betrayal 1999
Gunbuster
Samurai Champloo
There are some other interesting options, but I was little biased towards to the shorter series and one's that people described as being most comparable to what I mentioned in my original post. Particularly, stuff like Steins Gate, Alchemist Brotherhood, Death Note I've seen mentioned a lot even before I got interested in anime, so I imagine at some point I'll give them a shot

really disappointed that golden boy didn’t make your list smh
you want a short series? This about as short as it gets
yeah, i can only recommend season 1 from FLCL btw, progressive and alternative kinda didn't get the spirit of the series
also fair warning, the show moves fast and your opinion on it will probably change every minute. basically one of the directors behind NGE said "how much crazy s*** can we condense into 6 episodes". by the end tho, you'll probably want to watch it again.
Are progressive and alternative worth a watch? Flcl the only anime besides dbz I really f***ed with

neither are on the same level the OG was. kinda felt like a cash grab. but with the legacy the OG had it was never going to. there is thankfully a convenient way of explaining it (the show grew up with the viewer) but yeah.
alternative > progressive tho. alt was pretty good on it's own merits.
at least it had more pillows
Attack on Titan, by the time you catch up the final season should be premiering and you’ll be watching week to week on what’s a top 5 manga/anime of all time 😌

you know, I did end up watching this over the summer and it did become just about my fav anime (though Baccano! and Mushishi are also up there). Unfortunately, still waiting for the FINAL season to premiere lol
Samurai champloo?
Samurai Champloo and Trigun are the best answers (closest to the vein of the two listed in OP, short classics)

you've seen Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, right? and Yu Yu Hakusho? those are all up with AoT in S-Tier anime
Samurai Champloo
Assassination Classroom

Yes, FA:B is excellent! I haven't seen the other so it should go on my watchlist

oh for sure, start with Samurai Champloo and Trigun since they're short and then get into Yu Yu Hakusho (it's 112 episodes, so a longer haul but definitely worth it)
