Always been into literature since I was a youngin. Primarily reading comics and manga rn since I’m trying to write my own comic and stuff. It’s always been about finding an escape from reality for me
I really enjoy dissecting the ambiguity in things — film; tv; and most enjoyably the medium of books.
Find a great classic that’s laced with some grand themes of religion, philosophy, existence, or free will and you’re in for a world of delight.

Reading for the sake of reading just seems a bit wrong to me. There’s no denying it’ll increase your literacy skills but plenty of smart people don’t read. And plenty of dumb people do.
kinda just started, but a memory i have is the Harry Potter series read all those then just kinda liked being lost in different worlds by reading so i read more but then fell off during highschool lol i didnt read not a damn unassigned book during highschool F461 and Lord of the flies were very lit though s/o my english teachers freshman and sophomore year.
A form of escape, I always kept to myself as a young'en and didn't really express my emotions. Getting lost in stories and books which could evoke my emotions which I think was what made me continue reading. These days I've strayed away from the fiction stories and read a lot of non-fiction tho.
In HS we read Of Mice and Men, I was just so interested in finishing the book, so I disregarded waiting for the rest of the chapters to be assigned to us.
I also grew interest in books after watching thug notes on YT, it made me realize that books can be interesting and that they are more than just the story.
I ended up reading a few books. I fell off on it tho
They are very rewarding. It requires both sides of your brain where in the book covers a topic you are interested in
I've always had an interest in reading but it wasn't until i understood that seeking knowledge should be for God. To appreciate the things which He created.
Both my Grandmas were into Harry Potter and bought me the books. I loved how close it made us.
However i had a bunch of books before then so im not sure?
I remember having this huge almost college level encyclopedia of animals and i loved flipping through it before bed. I dont even know where i got that from. I wonder if I still have it, I’d love to properly read something like that now.
But Harry Potter was def the first long book I read on my own.
As a kid I used to read a lot, read the Harry Potter books at a fairly young age, there was some more stuff like Artemis Fowl and German authors Walter Moers, Mark Uwe-Kling which I loved, then I read some more books catering to YA like Charlie Bone but slowly kinda lost interest and video games and internet kinda made reading seem lame by the time I was 15. I think at that time I lowkey thought fiction writing is just not that interesting.
By 17 or so I started to really get into films and I realized I do care a lot about stories, and some of the books we read in school during that time like Kafka and Vonnegut really impressed me, so I got this idea that you can get into literature like you can get into music and films, but because there's just so f***ing much and I couldn't really find sources for recs I found reliable for my taste like I already had for music and film that became pretty overwhelming.
Then I ended up enrolling in comparative literature in uni, tbch more for lack of inspiration than anything else, but over time really found a liking to it, and by now I got s***loads of fiction I'm looking forward to read (though because of the internet and films I'm still a kind of slow reader)
I guess what interests me the most atm is storytelling (structuring), poetics (how to use words effectively and creatively), philosophy (perspectives, ideas), ideology (mostly from a critical standpoint), communication

Get back into it bro I was the same and I just really started reading for fun again last year (even though I was reading s*** for school)
Oh just saw your other comment
tbh it calms me plus perfect remedy for me when ive been watching too much tv.
I also like to imagine the book im reading as a movie
I can't believe I went so long without for real reading. I used to read books in a day. Def a great balance between making music/art, tv. youtube, video games, etc. Def gonna cops some books.
You have any recommendations? Fictional Books that have a story rather than just concepts and s***. If that's up your alley

Maybe "The Name of the Wind" or "The Lies of Locke Lamora" for fantasy, or for sci-fi try "Dune" or "Hyperion"
I've read all of these books and really liked them

Good plan

just finished Dune. but one of my favorite sci-fi books is called Lightning by Dean Koontz and for a graphic novel I enjoyed this one called Patience.
