thats another thing, differentiating criteria for classics.

to me, i just judge a classic simply off how much i enjoy the album, how it made me feel, and what it means to me. i don't take into account sales or its affect on the industry

oh ok. Yeah we have different criteria. I wouldn't call every album that's a good album to me a classic. I see classic as a different tier almost. There's bad albums, good albums, great albums, classics. That's how I see it. Like how is somebody supposed to argue against Purple Rain being a classic? That's where I'm coming from.

People only care about sales, awards and review scores when it can be used to hype their faves or clown artists they don’t like

Classic album Below The Heavens out now and certified copper

  • May 18, 2020

It's not a myth. Sales don't equal good or bad art.

Ok. That's not what this thread is about. Read the title again.

You said sales means a higher budget so sales matter. But budget =/= quality

how much can you tell about what a person values in life from their avi?

then when that artis is no longer in their prime all of a sudden sales don't matter because it doesn't define how great the art is. there's a specific stanbase that I see this happening to in a few years...

if we are limiting music to the relatively tiny mainstream portion then yeah it matters for business esp to labels. but as an art sales don't say much

The thing is there are 3 sides here
Side A: Sales = Better music

    No1 makes this argument

Side B: Sales dont matter at all
Most of this website and a lot of internet heads make this argument

Side C: Sales matter but they aren't the only thing that matter
    Some people make this argument.

    Im referring to side c.

do u mean matter for the artist? Do u mean matter in terms of how good the music is? Do u mean matter in terms of cultural impact? PLease be specific
