thats another thing, differentiating criteria for classics.
to me, i just judge a classic simply off how much i enjoy the album, how it made me feel, and what it means to me. i don't take into account sales or its affect on the industry
oh ok. Yeah we have different criteria. I wouldn't call every album that's a good album to me a classic. I see classic as a different tier almost. There's bad albums, good albums, great albums, classics. That's how I see it. Like how is somebody supposed to argue against Purple Rain being a classic? That's where I'm coming from.
People only care about sales, awards and review scores when it can be used to hype their faves or clown artists they don’t like

Ok. That's not what this thread is about. Read the title again.
You said sales means a higher budget so sales matter. But budget =/= quality

then when that artis is no longer in their prime all of a sudden sales don't matter because it doesn't define how great the art is. there's a specific stanbase that I see this happening to in a few years...
From idiots that make the “vanilla ice sold 10x platinum ONCE”
Same dudes that try to make the rings dont matter cuz “Robert horry has 7” argument
Have no sense of what longevity and consistency at the top means
Unable to use their mentals correctly

who u trynna impress
F***in drake stans are all losers istg
if we are limiting music to the relatively tiny mainstream portion then yeah it matters for business esp to labels. but as an art sales don't say much
The thing is there are 3 sides here
Side A: Sales = Better music
No1 makes this argument
Side B: Sales dont matter at all
Most of this website and a lot of internet heads make this argument
Side C: Sales matter but they aren't the only thing that matter
Some people make this argument.
Im referring to side c.
do u mean matter for the artist? Do u mean matter in terms of how good the music is? Do u mean matter in terms of cultural impact? PLease be specific
who u trynna impress
F***in drake stans are all losers istg
His stans love tryna push that narrative Against others when his fanbase is mostly men
Sales only matter to labels and artists. If you a fan really worried about sales you worried about the wrong s***.
Drake stans obsessed with record sales
6 Papi couldn't even outsell a country singer with no wikipedia page
You said sales means a higher budget so sales matter. But budget =/= quality
A higher budget can help an artist produce a better album. Stop being dense
do u mean matter for the artist? Do u mean matter in terms of how good the music is? Do u mean matter in terms of cultural impact? PLease be specific
Yes to all three but only to some degree.
Yall talking about only drake stans worrying bout sales but the only music yall ever talk about is mainstream rap. Cognitive dissonance at its finest
