A higher budget can help an artist produce a better album. Stop being dense

Or it can make the album worse. And if they’re already not a good artist it can sound vapid and overproduced compared to plenty of simple lower budget albums

Yes to all three but only to some degree.

u not gonna get an answer if u mix all three.

Of course sales matter to the artist, thats money in their pocket and a bigger budget for their next album.

Sales also matter for cultural impact. If everyone heard it, it had an impact on the culture.

Do sales matter when it comes to how good the music sounds to me? Not at all. Good music is good music, how many other people like it shouldn't matter.

People think sales don’t matter cuz they have no sense of what longevity and consistency is

Just take into account longevity and consistency and obviously 90% of sales dont matter

But if you have longevity and consistency that’s not BECAUSE of sales lol. Sales don’t mean s*** for most artists but can be indicative of staying power as a pop star, that’s it. There are musicians with even longer and more consistent careers than the biggest pop stars who don’t sell well bc they’re niche stylistically

    Ok good for them

I’m not saying you have it because of sales

I’m saying the only way you can use sales as a backing for why this artist is good or better than another if you are using sales is only if they have been consistent and have longevity

I don’t know why that’s hard to grasp

  • May 19, 2020

After the internet really exploded and all of these forums/social media flourished, and people started to pretend the sales don’t matter because they personally like artists that don’t sell.

    End thread
