address it again but in one clear post, u a lil too vague for me rn n im trynna see ur perspective

Sales dont matter for your personal opinion on an album. I dont think anyone who ever talks about sales ever says this or alludes to it. That addresses your question

Sales do however matter in terms of other things to some degree which is what the thread is talking about. This is what my thread is about

When people say x rapper still selling well all they saying is people probably still like it even if you dont. Its just separating general consensus from personal bias. This is just extra sht I'm saying now.

No it is speak for yourself a lot if kTT listens to obscure “mysterious music” it’s just that the mainstream music a commonality that people’s speak on

Ktt might have a thread or two on mysterious music but in general damn near everyone here only talks about mainstream rappers. Sidenote: you can be mysterious and mainstream

ok i think i see where u coming from...

Sales are an indicator that the artist did something right, bc people f***in w it, but they not a way to justify quality.

higher numbers gives artists an argument for larger budgets for albums tho

    This is true

But don’t most artists make their best music before they really blow up and get all that money?

this is 100% true. I make a thread abt SimxSantana or abt UK house rap, it gets like 2 replies n falls off the front page

I listen to SimxSantana, Kur, Leaf WardToure , NickGotti , PoundsidePop , ZiggMoney , and other philly bouls but its easier to talk about Gunna since everyone listens to him here

To a degree yeah but they can matter in the sense of like let's say an album like grodt going nearly diamond when traditionally gangsta rap isnt as popular as other genres in music in general. That artist must have done something right to crossover and appeal to music fans who don't normally listen to stuff like that.

I meant like labels giving you a budget for an album not your own personal finance. Like thriller wouldnt get the budget it got without mj being successful.

Some of my fav artists of all time don’t sell s*** but it’s still fire regardless of what they sell

    I know I mean there’s obviously exceptions

But most rappers best albums/tapes are the ones they release before they really get that major label funding behind them

It’s a question of who it should matter to. IMO it should only matter to the people involved in the making of the music and the label. If you’re a consumer jacking off to sales figures you’re a loser

  • May 19, 2020

People stopped caring once streaming became huge because now very few actually buy tracks, let alone albums. So what do sales really matter? They calculate streams in there too but it’s weird now ya know

This. Unless you’re working in the industry where your job is somehow tied to sales whether directly or writing about them or something... you shouldn’t care at all

  • May 19, 2020

Actually I take back my last post kinda

As a fan, you have a right to be excited about an artists success in SOME cases because it means that they’ll be taken more seriously by their label and will continue to release music

  • May 19, 2020

cause 14-20 year olds decide what's popular and sells more and that has nothing to do with the quality of a song

this is definitely true for the really talented artists who already have good teams but for ones that dont it could help a lot. If joe budden had a better budget he might be viewed different

Sales matter depending on the artist and subject. It's not meant to be weaponized and used to s*** on artist like we do here.
