also other genres are making great strides in the mainstream
pop is making a comeback, various electronic genres are getting extremely popular & dance music in many forms is the "it" thing rn with reggaeton, house, drumNbass, garage, afrobeat & edm
rap will probably not be the dominating genre in the next few years if it doesnt get it together. and might even end up worst than that. its everywhere irl and especially online on socials.
because once younger people latch onto pop or one of the dance genre(s) more and more then thats gonna be "the music of the youth" for them - literally like what rap did to rock
Alternative/R&B already the sound of the youth that’s been popping on tiktok for a while now
This s*** gonna be rebooted in 2024 all hiphop fans about to eat I can feel it
yeah i can't help but think s*** is gonna implode...there's no way of touching up the industry as it is; it has to start back up from the bottom

What artists specifically
i cant imagine the genre being carried by legacy acts for the next 5-10 years...it just seems weird lol
It reminds me of rock today lowkey
We need the industry to start growing artists instead of chasing 18-21yo’s putting out hit-of-the-weeks

Thought indie was gonna be that in like 2019/2020, now it's not as big

People with far more years of formative experience and far less time studio grinding/ PR stunting will have far more to talk about in their music (and far more ability to skillfully express themselves) than the alternative
distortion bass music. I heard this remix played at a party and was confused the crowd was GETTIN IT
I'm like "I can barely hear the words anymore"
Rap will make its way back into the mainstream organically. Current wave of Post-Tay Ks isn’t marketable and comes with too many liabilities outside of music. when the sound reforms again, the climate will probably resemble the mid-late 2000s, where rap was a force on the charts but only transcendent mega bangers hit top 5

this s*** f***ing knocks
reminds me of the way SGP mixes his s***
Smino the newest rapper I can think of with the skills and appeal to be as big as the previous generation and he’s been around damn near 10 years too
What artists specifically
One of the biggest new generation artists right now, we barely, if even, talk about him on here
It’s either going to bounce back or go back underground no in-between
Rappers from the late 00s- early 2010s are still carrying the genre but they’ll eventually get old and the next generation won’t connect to them anymore
And I don’t think Kanye has another album in him that can change the culture
It’s just up to the fact if there is another superstar on the way to shift the culture again or if rap will move away from the trap sound into something else or both
