i don't get it, forums have used IP banning for decades, if you act out in most discords you get banned, but twitter has a hard time dealing with abuse despite the vast amount of resources that they have at their disposal, like what gives?

You can't really compare twitter to forums. Twitter has 330 million monthly active users and your average forum 500-1000 users at best, it's just harder to moderate a site with so many people in it. Even if twitter started ip banning people it wouldn't change anything, you can download a vpn in just few minutes and create a new account. Personally i barely see racist s*** on twitter, i choose carefully who to follow and avoid anything related to politics.

There's so many users on Twitter, it's impossible to do a manual review for every tweet

The bots aren't perfect. YT for example almost wholly rely on AI for moderation and they still trash at it. And this is coming from Google who has vast resource and expertise in this field

Racists shouldn’t be banned. They should be laughed at, mocked, etc. Suppressing their right to express themselves isn’t they way

You probably have no idea what AI is capable of and is currently doing behind the scenes.

They choose not to use it for this.

Google has a Dislike feature that does literally nothing besides keep a tally of how many people click it. They have a neural network AI that monitors and responds to the consciousness of the general public. Something doesn't mesh here, and the reasonable guess is that they handicap the AI or set weird parameters because they want to. Not because it's the best they can do
