First of all idk why you comparing Future, Uzi or Thug to Drake ain’t nobody hold them to a high standard like we do with Drake. They are not contenders for the rap throne they are hit/vibemakers only. Ain’t nobody can even understand half of what they say anyways and you think people gunna care if they switch up what they talk about?

Now with Push the Tea and Wayne… it’s because of their style rap. Push the Tea switches up his subject matter enough for it to be fine and he’s good storyteller. Wayne is a way more metaphor and Punchline heavy rapper so it doesn’t matter as much. But with Drake? The dude literally refuses to talk about things other than himself and when he does he keeps repeating the same s***.

For a rapper whose style of rapping is so introspective and conversational, if he as a person and what’s going on in his is boring and if the conversation he has keeps being the same ones over and over again…. Well his songs are going to become stale and it’s WAAAYYY more noticeable and painful when he doesn’t switch up the subject matter more.

Is your point that More Life and CLB are interchangeable? Because they're clearly not lol. You can cherry-pick songs that sound alike from any artist's catalogue. So I don't know what point you're trying to make with this specific example.

Read what I wrote previously that's my point.

Just admit you’re wrong my g. It’ll be okay

I'm not wrong lol. You can take many songs off of anything from views to CLB and not fundamentally change the album

You see how you ignored the substance lol

You claimed I had to prove my argument and now you comment on something other than the proof.

    Just admit you are wrong.

Oh I disagree that those 2 songs are interchangeable, I just didn’t think you’d care

If you wanna get into tho, CLB has 1 sole afrobeat-style track (idk if that’s technically the genre classification tho). I don’t think it’s as simple as saying insert any afrobeat song in this slot. I personally feel like Fountains is one of the slowest afrobeat/r&b songs in his catalogue. I’d actually say, for your argument, Controlla would be a better swap but even that sounds a lil too “bright” for CLB. Ultimately, I think Fountains fits the best because of how slow and moody it is. It fits nicely with songs like In The Bible, Girls Want Girls, and even Race My Mind and TSU. Get It Together is a little too danceable in comparison.

I've been at work for 12 hours playing music. I'm not reading all of this. Condense it.

Sounds like you're just making excuses for every non-Drake artist. And Drake changes up his delivery/flow plenty. Compare LNCL to What's Next to Way 2 Sexy to Knife Talk to Papi's Home.

    More substance-free criticism.

Imagine if Hov was held to this standard from 1996-2003 ... he'd be nobody's GOAT.

Idk why you talking about delivery or flow for this discussion is purely about his subject matter. And idk what Hov you were listening to but he switched up his subject matter enough during that time and like I said given the type of rapper Drake is it's especially bad if he doesn't switch up his subject matter more.

Future had Wzrd which was absolutely refined sonically. Beautiful album. Save Me EP also had some strong exploration.

Thug turned into Gunna and makes pop music. Not like his albums are being touted. He's definitely doing something different. He just did that live show with instrumental backing.

Uzi's album was widely panned. As was his collab record with Future.

Pusha doesn't drop a lot. His last record was 7 tracks, years ago. His best work was collaborative with the NEPTUNES.

Wayne is celebrated more as a feature these days probably because he's not a great songwriter, not the best beats, and him doing bars for a full record is monotonous.

    Style and substance go together.

Idk what critics you're reading but the critical world fawned over So Much Fun and Eternal Atake. And they'll say CLB is worse, just like they said Scorpion and Views were trash.

  • Drake remaking views because it was his most successful album

  • Sep 5, 2021

Nah but really, I think the real issue is that Drake doesn’t follow the rules of rap because he’s not solely a rapper. This enables him to be at the top for standards that r&b and pop artists follow, but when we think top rappers it’s gotta be someone with multiple deliveries and talks about social issues like Kendrick. Drakes just a hands down great songwriter and he’s successful at it and it bothers people because it feels like he’s breaking the rules 🤷🏾‍♂️

The Thug stuff is my opinion. He is certainly not the same guy he was 5 years ago though which is relevant to OP's prompt.

I guess I misspoke on EA. This forum was very mixed on it. He definitely didn't get a free pass here.
