    Started in 2016 when streaming rules came into effect tbh. Back in the 90s and 00s rappers talked about sales but fans didnt really give af. Nobody thought Nelly was better than Nas or Jay because he sold more records. Maybe the 07 Grad vs Curtis battle kicked off this current generations fascination with it tbf

    Hell I remember in 2013 when Yeezus, Mac Millers album and Cole's album all dropped on the same day. Can't even remember which album sold more. The debate on KTT was which album was better, not which one sold more.

  • I get caring about album sales if you just wanna keep up with the numbers of your favorite artist. But if you start using numbers to excuse the lack of quality then it becomes an issue imo.
