Genius makes sense and more artists should probably do it.

They don't pay these artists while using their literal words. It's another example of hip hop being devalued.

Plus, genius f***s up a lot more lyrics than they get right. It's also a better fulfilling experience when you personally listen and get what you want out of it.

I miss the days where the CD liner notes had the lyrics from the artists themselves.

Genius used to be the s***. This is revisionist history

I heard they did drop the ball as a community, its mad politics abt metadata/lyric submissions now

But them getting a bag of this is not devaluing hip hop, it’s smart and has led to cross promotion. There’s no international hip hop union to pay a cut to or nothin.

Idg your perspective. This entire music s*** is just a business

they don't f*** up more lyrics than they get right. i could see an argument for paying artists. but i could also see an argument for not. magazines don't pay artists for interviews and those use the artists' actual words. people looking up lyrics probably helps artists on the whole

the lyrics of a song are copyrighted tho thru publishing rights

  • May 25, 2021

Hasn’t this been the case for 2 or 3 years?

No lyrics to read makes you listen harder and engage with the music more

I think a lot of people engage more when they have the lyrics in front, different types of listeners engage differently

this has nothing to do w hip hop lol

MAYBE it’s an example of music being devalued (I say maybe bc you’ll find plenty of poems printed in full online too), but lyrics being circulated online has been a thing for forever
