If people are producing extra goods and materials that should go towards actually improving the lives of the people that invention is supposed to benefit. I don't have anything against working 30 hour work weeks but I really don't have any issues with 40+ hour weeks. I never feel like I don't have enough time to do things outside of work.

Depends on what he's doing, if the money's great or he's in a field he enjoys with no kids/dependents then it's fine tbh. If you're trying to move up the corporate ladder then for a lot of people that work/life balance stuff is a myth lol.
