idk what she mean - music videos get ridiculous amount of views to this day
even by obscure artists
watching much music countdown as a canadian kid was goated, just watching music videos all day
Ppl forget that watching music videos was one of the only ways beside radio to listen to music for free with MTV and later on demand with YouTube
Last really iconic music video I can think of is Hotline Bling tbh
yikes
How has no one made a Weeknd flop joke itt?
I regularly watch music videos. They are wonderful pieces of art
We're the minority. I fantasize about music videos in my head when listening to a lot of songs. I wish there was ever a period where artists would go back in their catelouge and create music videos for cult classic songs
are really the only key markets for music videos in 2024
Ehh music videos were essentially commercials and you can approximate the advertising value of a music video with short form content (reels, TikToks etc) while having wayyyy better ROI margins
So from a business standpoint a music video is probably one of the worst value propositions in media. (Speaking of high budget, multi-location, multi-day shoots)
artistically they still hold merit and are worth re-investing in. Music Videos were really the main way artist used to build their brand and was crucial to the storytelling of some of our biggest artist ever.
Like mentioned itt already it's kinda confounding that no streamer has tried to revitalize MVs and attempt to corner that market (iirc I think Apple signaled they were gonna do this and didn't ?)
Youtube music video views seem down for rap tbh. Even Not Like Us is low compared to what it wouldve been years ago.

No one's making creative music videos anymore that stick. No suprise rap views are coming down

Can’t replicate the feeling those channels used to give
It’s cool having every video available instantly but it’s more soulless now when it’s the only option

Well that ones more cuz he released it ages later when beef was wrapped up. And it still made enough noise to get the song back to number 1
i like the effort drake, uzi, kendrick, and a few others put in their videos they’re not so dead it’s just that nobody’s gonna have the budgets michael jackson or bad boy had
