I’ve seen several posts on here and social media criticizing Drake for not being overtly socially conscious in his music. As arguably the biggest black artist on Earth, what responsibility don’t you think he has in uncertain times like this? Is the work he’s done to address issues outside of his music enough? Do you even want to hear him rap/sing about his black experience being a biracial canadian jew?

I personally don’t think he needs to considering his unique position. Do you agree?

He is in a very unique position just off his racial makeup and background. But honestly I think he should. I don’t think anyone who likes him will hate him for it. Those who already hate him will def be loud with their hate on him but it would business as usual.

Lol i mean sure. But don't we hear it from otger people. Drake speaking on it doesn't make it any less real or make it go away.

Don't know why people feel like they can control what people say or don't say

I don’t know why youre single out that Drake for being a black Canadian is really not unique position. Canada is just across the border and more over Drakes biggest market is in the United States, he spent a large portion of his life and career in the United States. May it be touring or recording his associates and fans all reside here.

I find it wrong that Dake is conveniently black when it benefits him for his music making songs like Look Alive showing his deep appreciation for this culture but when it’s time that he should show solidarity with these very black people he screams out less he offends racists He’s only thinking about his bottom line

Facts he's really not the one to say anything. Plus he is from Canada. It's a win lose situation and i don't think it should really matter

White people are the biggest consumers of hip hop in general so Drakes bottom line is everyone’s bottom line

Why does anyone care what celebrities have to say in the first place?

That’s a dispicble way to think. We all have three obligations at a time of injustice we could either physically help the oppressed over the oppressor, speak out against oppression, or simply just dislike it from your heart and the weakest is having it remain in your hearts

It’s crazy how I know that since kindergarten it’s been drilled into you that you’re supposed to speak out against oppression and wrongdoing against others and how historically how noble and brave those who speak out against are. There’s people dying in this country four over three centuries and a change has yet to come. If you think being silent is best, you’re a weak individual.

  • Yes because he said out of his own mouth he identifies as a black man

he very rarely raps about american black struggle because hes from toronto, a city that is arguably the MOST racially diverse place to live in the world and fuses all those cultures into one big city

in toronto, ur friend group will easily consist of 3-4 different races of people, literally look at drakes team he had since the start that consists of just that.

Race isnt even "seen" in toronto, you dont walk down the street and say "oh look an asian" "oh look a black guy" "oh look a white dude", its just toronto mans

honestly feel like americans will never understand this, how diverse toronto is and unified

So what makes you think he isn't doing that because he don't put a hashtag on Instagram.

What have you done outside complaining that others aren't

Na bro. Toronto ane Canada is equally racist. They don't have the history America. The whole race isnt seen sentiment is played out. Why wouldn't i want someone to see me for my race. New york and Cali are diverse too doesn't mean there isnt racism or discrimination
