They literally stated that they know Drake posting about it won't change anything but that it would have felt a way to them, with Drake being a black man, especially with how much time Drake spends on Instagram and the fact that he has seen many accounts he follows post about it, if Drake didn't say anything. I understand that sentiment. It's okay if you don't.

Understandably, some people want their favorite celebrities to speak on issues like this so they feel like the issues they're dealing with also affect them and that's okay. I just don't think any famous person should be PRESSURED into saying something because most of the time, they're very uneducated about issues like this and they often come across as stupid when/if they speak up.

In that case, there are other ways to acknowledge what's going on. A simple repost would suffice but I think the main way they can contribute is with their money.

Yes a social media post isn’t going to change the world but for someone as tied to the culture as him it’s better show some level of involvement or acknowledgement towards what is happening and possibly guide those who need help or are looking to help.

Y’all always talk about how Drake is the king/voice of the decade or generation, runs the culture, etc. Thus someone as prominent as him is just naturally gonna be looked to during this time where people are protesting for the lives of black men. I put a lot of emphasis on Drake, but I was really talking about celebrities in general. A lot of times they only speak on black lives matter movement or police brutality when everyone else is, or when it's "trending". Really I'm just tired of us putting celebs in a place where they need to do it now. They have a platform to use and they can use it how they see fit. If just feels like they have so much power, why not use it to speak about ongoing issues more than just when it's hot at the moment? I placed my frustration into the wrong place, but I'm just tired of it all.

They affiliate themselves with our culture, maybe even make music about our struggles, but when it's time to do something they ignore it or just put one line in a song about it. If they affiliate themselves with our everyday struggles, then speak out against them during times like this. Drake did post about it which is better than a lot of them. I think the point you’re missing is that mixed people don’t affiliate themselves with our culture....they are already a part of it. Eminem is a guest in our culture because he’s white. He has a bigger responsibility than Drake for example because he’s a white man eating off black culture. Drake and other biracial/mixed or in other words Black celebrities cannot opt in and out of their identity. I repeat, they are black. They can pull an MJ and try to look white but they still black whether they like it or not. The one drop rule is a thing man. I don’t make the rules.

Just because Canada across the border doesn’t change the fact that it’s an entirely different country with different history. America is a very unique place in terms of race and we need to understand that. We cannot assume that our black experience is the same across the world when it’s not.
