He’s posted about it, now what? Has anything changed in the 5 hours since? I hope you’re now content in your heart, all should be fine now because Drake acknowledged it on social media. The police will now stop killing people because Drake, Rihanna, Beyoncé etc posted on IG, y’all really gotta grow up.
They literally stated that they know Drake posting about it won't change anything but that it would have felt a way to them, with Drake being a black man, especially with how much time Drake spends on Instagram and the fact that he has seen many accounts he follows post about it, if Drake didn't say anything. I understand that sentiment. It's okay if you don't.
Understandably, some people want their favorite celebrities to speak on issues like this so they feel like the issues they're dealing with also affect them and that's okay. I just don't think any famous person should be PRESSURED into saying something because most of the time, they're very uneducated about issues like this and they often come across as stupid when/if they speak up.
In that case, there are other ways to acknowledge what's going on. A simple repost would suffice but I think the main way they can contribute is with their money.

I know it’s ok that I don’t I wasn’t asking you for permission. A lot of you are weak I doubt the need for Drake to speak is being extended to the people in power who could actually make a difference but a lot of you subscribe to social media posturing and bullshit so then it makes sense. Like I said he posted about it and there are still 3 police officers that’s haven’t been arrested yet while y’all in here worrying about an IG post.
That's pretty much it tbh
He should probably sit this one out and help in the background with donations and other stuff

You're a f***ing idiot. Who are you calling weak? You don't know me personally so don't make those stupid assumptions about me.
Like I said, @iHype perfectly explained WHY they wanted Drake to say something. I'm sorry you're too stupid to understand basic english. I keep forgetting common sense isn't common.
It's as simple as some people who are Drake fans wanting him to speak out. He has done that and now that's done.
I've already said that celebrities aren't people's heroes and they shouldn't expect them to save them in times like this so I don't know what you're going on about. I'm not the one.
He doesn't need too and if he doesn't have anything of value to add then especially no let him be a person.
It's 2020 but this joke reigns supreme
"The biggest black artist on earth"
LMAO
When this blows over hes back to being a culture vulture canadian jew
False idols.
he very rarely raps about american black struggle because hes from toronto, a city that is arguably the MOST racially diverse place to live in the world and fuses all those cultures into one big city
in toronto, ur friend group will easily consist of 3-4 different races of people, literally look at drakes team he had since the start that consists of just that.
Race isnt even "seen" in toronto, you dont walk down the street and say "oh look an asian" "oh look a black guy" "oh look a white dude", its just toronto mans
honestly feel like americans will never understand this, how diverse toronto is and unified
This is such a poor take and simply untrue. We've seen how Toronto has reacted to the coronavirus towards the asian demographic and we know how they react towards minorities.
A place with no racism would not have to throw these posters up
No need to cap for an artist by downplaying racism.

You completely barely read anything clearly and just don’t get the overall point.
Drake is arguably up there as one of the most known black men in history. If he continued to go on Instagram and like memes and repost other rappers new music they dropped it would seem tone deaf and ignorant as to what is going on to some people. Yes a social media post isn’t going to change the world but for someone as tied to the culture as him it’s better show some level of involvement or acknowledgement towards what is happening and possibly guide those who need help or are looking to help.
Y’all always talk about how Drake is the king/voice of the decade or generation, runs the culture, etc. Thus someone as prominent as him is just naturally gonna be looked to during this time where people are protesting for the lives of black men. When you say him making a post won’t solve anything to me it just seems like you’re saying his voice isn’t powerful which we both know isn’t the truth.
Obviously we are clearly going to have different opinions on this so OK.
I don’t know why youre single out that Drake for being a black Canadian is really not unique position. Canada is just across the border and more over Drakes biggest market is in the United States, he spent a large portion of his life and career in the United States. May it be touring or recording his associates and fans all reside here.
I find it wrong that Dake is conveniently black when it benefits him for his music making songs like Look Alive showing his deep appreciation for this culture but when it’s time that he should show solidarity with these very black people he screams out less he offends racists He’s only thinking about his bottom line
Damn this post real af

True. He'll go back to being a Jew and still saying nigga. Don't just pick sides when it's convenient. I love the dude, but we all known he's wishy washy at times. I'd rather him not do anything than be hypocritical tbh. At least we know what he stands for for real and not leave us confused. And that doesn't go for him. It goes for all the other celebs who try to pick sides when it benefits them or won't hurt their image. Pick a side, stick with it, don't be hypocritical.
EDIT: Since he said something, stick with it
Lol good for you. Why are you on ktt crying about Drake. You should be protesting
lmao

Fam. He cannot physically pick and choose which side he wants to be on. What is with y’all in trying to make black people earn their blackness? Oh since he has a white mom he’s not really black? White people view him as black. If he gets pulled over he’s a nigga. He’s made it clear that he identifies as black and he doesn’t really have a choice in the matter. Nobody will know that he’s Jewish unless he tells you. He IS black. His accomplishments ARE by definition black excellence. He doesn’t rap or sing about a lot of social issues but he HAS used his power and influence in other ways. People want him to be the Malcolm X of Canada and the USA while simultaneously implying that he’s not really black anyway. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

Wild how you think his Jewish background just completely overrides the fact that he’s still black. You sound like an idiot.

I put a lot of emphasis on Drake, but I was really talking about celebrities in general. A lot of times they only speak on black lives matter movement or police brutality when everyone else is, or when it's "trending". Really I'm just tired of us putting celebs in a place where they need to do it now. They have a platform to use and they can use it how they see fit. If just feels like they have so much power, why not use it to speak about ongoing issues more than just when it's hot at the moment? I placed my frustration into the wrong place, but I'm just tired of it all.

That post was deep and entirely accurate. And it isn't just Drake, it's most black and mixed celebrities if we wanna be honest. They affiliate themselves with our culture, maybe even make music about our struggles, but when it's time to do something they ignore it or just put one line in a song about it. If they affiliate themselves with our everyday struggles, then speak out against them during times like this. Drake did post about it which is better than a lot of them. A lot of them won't even make a simple IG post. It's disgusting tbh.
He doesn’t have to, but he still does here and there
He’s never tried to be that person that people look to when it comes to those issues and it’s a good thing he hasn’t because when he does speak about it people seem to be positive about it instead of hating on him like with everything else

I think the point you’re missing is that mixed people don’t affiliate themselves with our culture....they are already a part of it. Eminem is a guest in our culture because he’s white. He has a bigger responsibility than Drake for example because he’s a white man eating off black culture. Drake and other biracial/mixed or in other words Black celebrities cannot opt in and out of their identity. I repeat, they are black. They can pull an MJ and try to look white but they still black whether they like it or not. The one drop rule is a thing man. I don’t make the rules.
Just because Canada across the border doesn’t change the fact that it’s an entirely different country with different history. America is a very unique place in terms of race and we need to understand that. We cannot assume that our black experience is the same across the world when it’s not. Racism exists all over but it manifests in different ways.

I get you with Eminem. Maybe I'm really mad at white people like Justin Timberlake and Bhad Babie who constantly take or have taken and give NOTHING in return. There's whites like Bille and Taylor who at the very least spoke on social media. JT hears about black lives matter and he immediately spins it around to all lives matter. I'm just tired of these shootings and our brothers dying all the time and there being nothing done about it There's small steps being taken and different organizations supporting and I don't expect to wake up tomorrow to a peaceful world with no racism. I'm just tired of it all and all the help and support we can get is exactly what we need. If you can help in any way HELP! Now is not the time to just sit back let everything play itself out. We are in such a terrible state as a country it's disheartening.

You sound ignorant
You do realize he can be black and jewish at the same time right?
And when has drake ever been wishy washy? His stance on police brutality has been the same from the jump

Do you think you've done more groundwork to help black people than Drake out of interest? People can easily show you receipts of the crazy amounts of s*** he's done.
Stop focusing on celebs and focus on yourself weirdo.
