dune messiah isn't the best but I've always thought it would be the easiest novel in the series to adapt to tv or film

i actially like messiah more than the first one

i feel like its very .. human?

    very depressing aswell

Agree. I feel like Messiah is the book that solidifies the theme of Dune and its views on heroes and leaders. Reading the first book only means a lot of people miss the point. Messiah is the book that brings it all together.

Its arguably better than the 2000 mini series adaption which was solid for its time despite budget limitations. The Children of Dune mini series also also adapts Dune Messiah in its first part.

I’m reading God Emperor of Dune atm, close to finishing it. Close to the climax, but the question I wanna ask just so I’m clear… Duncan Idaho is a homophobe…? Or am I misinterpreting that

I nearly stopped reading all together getting through Dune. Interesting ecosystem and elaborate politic or whatever but such an annoying Mary Sue at the center. Really up its own ass especially near the end. Glad I can put it behind me after I watch the movie. This is coming from someone who has read a lot of science fiction

just got done listening to the audiobook
I liked it but maybe some of the language and colonial themes haven't aged very well especially if you are arab, middle eastern or north African decent.

Children of Dune was quite a journey. I really enjoyed it, maybe more than the first two, although they’ve all been great. It definitely took a turn once Leto fused with the sandtrout. Not sure when I’ll start book 4 but I’m anxious to check it out, bc the whole last half of 3 was just a whirlwind with Leto becoming a living God and controlling everything.

They're going to have to come up with a better name for the sandtrout by movie 3 doesn't sound nearly as cool as it is

Finally finished the first book. Such a powerful/thrilling read. One of my favorite books for inner-dialogue oat

Not sure I loved the ending as much as I loved the journey though.

Just finished Ice by Anna Kavan. Big fan of Philip K D***. Southern Reach Trilogy was great. Lots of classic dystopian ones.

Tough to say. The last one I read was Ubik which I rarely hear about, and I thought it was as good as any of the rest if not a little more surreal and crazy at times.

Haven't got to it yet. I've read a lot of shorts, Do Androids Dream, A Scanner Darkly, The Man In The High Castle, and Flow My Tears besides Ubik.

Anna Kavan was also a strung out headcase and wrote Ice before she died in the late 60s. Definitely some similar vibes to Ubik with how time and space are all out of whack in it. Was a pretty brisk read as well

after reading the book it was nowhere near as mystical as lynch or psychadelic as villenueve outside of the changing of the water passage, even then just barely, jessica had an explanation for everything

it being inner monologue makes it difficult to transfer it to the screen but it felt like it gave the reader a bird's eye perspective

not a bad thing just wasn't expecting it

Need help deciding whether I reread Dune or move onto Messiah. I absolutely loved the original, cruised through it, and was raring to read it again but started Messiah instead. Messiah didn't captivate me the same way and I ended up dropping it before finishing. I still have a good idea what happens in Dune, but my mind isn't exactly fresh enough to remember all of the details. So, is it worth giving Dune another spin and then moving on to Messiah or should I just give Messiah another chance?
