2-4 worth reading? Should I reread Dune first or just go for it?

Personally, I would read all 6
1 - 4 are essential. Messiah is a really quick read, I did that in about a day. A lot of people will say stop at Children but I did not like Children and I LOVE God Emperor. Think it comes to down to personal taste in tone, you might feel one way or the other. However stopping at Children doesn’t really allow for the bigger lesson of the series that’s stressed in God Emperor to land.
5 - 6 are not essential, but they are the most unhinged of the bunch. Again, Children is actually my least favorite. I would pick these over that one. Herbert was just throwing whatever at the wall at that point. Somethings work and somethings don’t but they are definitely a lot of fun.
Dune and God Emperor are so good and Dune Messiah is tragic and really gets you thinking, I think Messiah could be better if Paul explained the other futures instead of just thinking about it
I felt like Dune & Dune Messiah still are the the best story here and Messiah really is important but God Emperor could make a cool Movie or Trilogy
Children of Dune seemed like a fever dream though and I mean that in a chaotic way I have no interest in reading it again it was kind of hard to finish and I love Messiah, God Emperor and Dune
thinking about reading Chapter House and Heretics but idk
like there are so many points in Children of Dune i just had to set the book down and go wtf am I reading some plot threads feel like being on a bad LSD trip
it does setup God Emperor though so idk if I would skip it

like imagine anyone trying to adapt Children of Dune into a TV show
I’m reading God Emperor of Dune atm, close to finishing it. Close to the climax, but the question I wanna ask just so I’m clear… Duncan Idaho is a homophobe…? Or am I misinterpreting that
yes he's a homophobe
I feel like Frank explained it like your Grandparent that could be like that
I guess the galaxy was more homophobic during the first book idk that's how I understood it
Finished the first book
It was great
Currently on Messiah

on Children rn but Messiah is great and honestly raises the quality of the of dune overall from making it a great hero journey novel to a brilliant tragedy
