Which translation of master margarita?? Unsure which ones are good
it was a really good and recent french translation by André Markowicz
Started reading The Idiot last night and read the first 4 chapters.
Really liking it so far. Chapter 2(if I recall correctly) was amazing where they talked about the death penalty. Do not punish death with death. I felt it was a metaphor for how to cope with death. Clearly the way to cope with this is to be Christian according to Dostoyevsky, if I interpreted it correctly.
Really curious how the rest of the book will turn out.
just started crime and punishment and i stan!!! already tore through half the book last night and i’ll probably finish on my flight today
Amazing informative video on Dostoyevsky.
Just turn the subtitles to English and you’re good.
Yeah, might be copping this when it comes out. But might be starting an ebook variant if I become impatient lol.
Did you already start?
I copped the new edition that will release 30/9 but started 2 days ago with the e-book. I’m really liking it.
Let me know
Curious what you’ll think of it

I bought it, but the library has the ebook, if you know someone who has a library card login with their app and you can ‘loan’ it there.

I was planning on going to my local bookstore this weekend gonna browse it and maybe pick some other s*** up too. It’s the one with this cover right?
Also don’t expect me to finish it anytime soon tho, I always read like 4 books at once so depending on how I’m feeling.
How do you like it so far, is the translation nice to read?

Yeah that’s the one. Really nice edition.
Translation is really good, the book flows really well. Loads of dialogue so you get sucked in quite easily. Arthur Langeveld is a great translator
so I should start with crime & punishment?
Yes.
Notes from the underground can be and probably will be to overwhelming.

I get why he recommends notes from the underground.
Probably because its short and the perfect introduction to Dostoyevsky his writing and philosophy.
If you have no prior knowledge of Dostoyevsky and in particular not a lot of literature reading experience(don't know if this applies to you) you will not like the book and probably quit after 10 pages.
The first part of the book is just pure philosophical thoughts.
