Uzi one of those rappers everyone enjoys to some extent + he works with street rappers so he will be fine. Carti still has his mysterious white fanbase separate from hip-hop.

Completely different because styles were different and hip hop wasn’t broadly digested by middle class/ upper class kids

Doesn’t matter. Those kids you posted probably listen to nothing but Uzi, Drake, carti, thug, keef, Travis, Rocky, etc

It pretty much died again with the deaths of Pop and Von.

Bobby might bring it back, who knows?

  • May 10, 2021

It’s always been like this though what is anyone talking about??? This argument makes 0 sense, there are so many sounds popular at any one time in internet/streaming era, ‘street rap’ has always been chart dominating in this era and even before

and damn near all them rappers a this point have a fanbase that isn't exclusive to rap at this point.

Listening to a rapper =/= rap fan

There does seem to be a surge in street rap but I don't think it'll last much longer. Rappers like pooh sheisty, durk, etc have no longevity and will be irrelevant in the next 5 years.

Listening to a rapper != being a rap fan but if all or 90% of what you listen to is rap then you’re a rap fan

Those kids you posted are listening to all rap or mostly all rap. I know cause I went to school w niggas like that

street rap has always been as big as it is lol it’s just that internet rap picked up wayyyyy more in 2014-17

Street rappers have always been the most popular rap. How does Durk not have longevity when he’s been around for a decade at this point and is having a second run

Pop rap is actually the most popular subgenre of hiphop and has been since like 2014/15. And Durk has mostly been irrelevant for those ten years.

That’s 6 years out of the entire history of rap and that didn’t even last long. There was a period from like 15-17 where street rap wasn’t the most popular but that’s ended

And they were the minority 20 years ago. Today they make up a larger portion of who’s digesting the music.
