Genuine question. If you just hate baby you can skip this thread. I’m really interested in hearing from fans who thinks his last two albums or this last one is a disappointment. This was also made because I saw his first day Spotify numbers and I’m surprised.
@Hndrxx_Free this a question for you
You think it’s the lack gunna involvement?
The cracks were starting to show before all dat tbf but gunna overlapping him did made him look worse
People assumed his progression would be linear but he regressed. He needs to rap over some new beats. New album has some good songs though. Current Atlanta underground sound is way better than what he’s making

what ATL underground stuff you recommend?
I think the new album is good, 7/10. Definite step up from the previous album but there isn’t a real hit on there. He’s got amazing technical ability but doesn’t really have any new ideas on how to use it. Absolutely wasted the Dumb and Dumber beat.
Felt like he took a few chances and did some different flows and vocal inflections on 3-4 of the new songs, if he gains more confidence with trying out new things, he should be fine

What’s some good ATLANTA underground? @insertcoolnamehere
Most of his audience came from people who thought that his voice and cadence were a fresh take on the genre. Several years later his voice and cadence, which were his main appeal, didn't evolve while people who were looking for something new moved on quite logically from his tired sound
his album did well on apple music. he probably isn't doing 200k+ like his last album, but 110k-130k seems like a reasonable guess. his hype is not where it used to be but he's still pretty big for current hip-hop standards.
Same s*** as Chance
He had a big moment and got compared to a legend as “the next one up” and then dropped a disappointing album in that pivotal moment after people were already starting to grow tired of them.

I been listening to a lot of 4Lquan, baby drill, lilworld5L, Benji blue Bills, L5, Lil Bigg. Baby Kia’s last EP was pretty good but I’m not up on a lot of his other stuff besides his biggest songs

“Sophomore” curse? Very hard to follow up your breakout album.
People. Don’t. Like. Rappers. Who. Don’t. Try. New. Flows. And. Beats.
Is what it is. It starts in the Internet mainly. Look what happened to Griselda. 2 years ago they were LOVED. Now? They still making the same music quality wise but niggas are bored. Lil Baby has become a niche artist with major connections and hit potential until he allows himself to be taught how to flow and enunciate differently
It’s why Gunna and Future got the juice and these niggas losing it. Can’t all be 21
Adding on to what everyone else is saying, I think his vocabulary is kinda limited rap wise. Not only is the subject matter pretty limited but imo it feels like hes using a lot of the same words or phrases to deliver that message a lot and that multiplies the feeling of redundancy.

Well no because It’s Only Me was his third album, 4th if you count his collab with Gunna
He got wayyyy too comfortable with that certain pocket rapping over 160 BPM beats and ran that into the ground. Thankfully he read the room and avoided those types of beats and flows on the majority of WHAM.

It’s the repetitiveness. 21 just made a hit with red rum and it’s the same s*** he been saying since 2016, but it sounds different enough from his last hit
