It's Only Me is WAY better.
I actually think It's Only Me represents where he should of went with this Wham project.
IMO if you listen to records like Real Spill, Not Finished, In A Minute, Everything, Danger, Back and Forth with Gee, just slaps where he's rapping and getting his s*** off.
He's not really good enough or compelling enough of a song writer to be 'versatile' or try to go beyond the aforementioned kind of songs. Easy, fast paced slaps that are easily digestible by most. He gets in trouble when he tries to do things that aren't really in his wheelhouse.
This s***s on most if not all of Wham
I can read the lyrics of a new Lil Baby song without hearing it and predict the flow, cadence, energy and overall delivery. His songs sound like a copy and paste of every other song he's done.
With this, it's getting boring and lackluster. I want him to try different flows, different sounds like great artists do. Versatility is important in the game.
He aint musically versatile enough. Most of his music is generic street raps meant for playlists
It’s the repetitiveness. 21 just made a hit with red rum and it’s the same s*** he been saying since 2016, but it sounds different enough from his last hit
I think production helps 21 a lot. His production keeps evolving while I feel like if you've heard one Lil Baby song you've heard them all
He’s got plenty this decade, let’s not do that
Definitely doesn’t compare to last decade in terms of hook output

As a fellow Kenfolk, gonna have to disagree
I was very disappointed in Its Only Me

Sounds like he needs to hit up Conductor and Alchemist
Definitely doesn’t compare to last decade in terms of hook output
I mean we could do that for every artist Drake suffering from the LeBron effect
Ironic
Everyone in mainstream rap outside of a few select dudes is making basic background music that only marginally makes you nod your head and any superlatives beyond that is because everyone else is gassing some s*** up and you don’t wanna look out of touch. Alternatively you inexplicably don’t feel anything they do once the larger zeitgeist say they fell off. Everyone an NPC now.
Carti next when Music drops then Veeze this fall. Niggas dont have no taste and tbh the deeper rabbithole is that 106 and park and magazines and s*** played that role in prior generations, now its just “the timeline”

Bruh this perspective real asf
Music discourse online and in person now is a complete joke
Feels more like keeping up with the antics of reality tv stars than rappers
Because the music is lazy and sounds cluttered and like ass. Dude used to have some sauce in his raps and now it is literally a chore to listen to his music. Definition of washed.
The cracks were starting to show before all dat tbf but gunna overlapping him did made him look worse
Im a huge fan off both and honestly the narrative that is forming that Gunna is evolving his sound and progressing is something i dont really understand
His last 2 albums are good, s*** One of Wun was a top 10 album of 2024 and thought it was pretty good. But I dont feel he is doing anything different that he did in Wunna or DS4 for example
I think he just mantained making good music but now is an underdog that people want to root for, specially because we dont know anything behind the scenes and it seems that Thug, Baby and friends are being unfair to him
I
Genuine question. If you just hate baby you can skip this thread. I’m really interested in hearing from fans who thinks his last two albums or this last one is a disappointment. This was also made because I saw his first day Spotify numbers and I’m surprised.
Im about to write a lot of text but i want to say that his first day debut stream numbers arent that bad
16 million spotify streams vs 21 Ms for Its Only Me but that one has 8 songs more, thats a lot more tracks
Most of his audience came from people who thought that his voice and cadence were a fresh take on the genre. Several years later his voice and cadence, which were his main appeal, didn't evolve while people who were looking for something new moved on quite logically from his tired sound
I think his paid promo of "this is the new Wayne!!!" under everything at first got very tiring when every song was the exact same. Then he dropped the "heyyyy!!!" s*** and niggas thought he was gay for that so he's been scrambling ever since tbh
Same s*** as Chance
He had a big moment and got compared to a legend as “the next one up” and then dropped a disappointing album in that pivotal moment after people were already starting to grow tired of them.
He’s bad and always been bad.
We’ve just hit his time where people start to realise.
We either get Da Baby or Roddy Rich where it comes sooner than usual or Lil Baby where it takes time but it hits.
Only real music gonna last. All that other bullshit, it’s here today and gone tomorrow.
@Hndrxx_Free this a question for you
His problem is that he dropped one of the biggest hip hop classics of the 2020s with My Turn, and the two followups Its Only Me and Wham are imo very good but not the same level so peoole get dissapointed,I will die on the hill that they are underrated af tho and were written off way too quickly
imo the biggest problem, people have formed a narrative against him and arent giving him a chance and just post hate on social media to do numbers. I have seen this week some of the most forced and sometimes even objectively untrue hate just because its does impressions.
Also i feel that there is this narrative that Baby is one of the "villians" because he doesnt f*** with Gunna no more because of the trial and it has become cool to hate on him and to support Gunna
Basically that when the internet writes you off and puts u into a box, deserved or not. Its pretty difficult to change that perception and wont give u a fair chance

My Turn is a classic album so this argument is just untrue
